Orville Lowry

Orville L. Lowry passed away on June 26th, 2009 at Villa Maria Health System in Fargo, ND. Orville was born on May 22, 1926 in Watertown, SD. to Albert and Mabel Lowry. He went through grade, junior and senior high in Watertown. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and was accepted in the V5 Naval aviation program. During this time he went to college at St. Ambrose, Northwestern and Shoemaker. After his discharge from the Navy, he graduated from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion with a degree in business. Orville moved to Valley City, ND in 1949 to become assistant manager of a Montgomery Ward Store. He met Harriet Lettenmaier there and they were married on June 3, 1950. In 1951 he began working for a grocery chain managing problem stores until they became profitable. This involved moves to many cities in the middle states. In 1965 they moved to Lincoln, Neb. where Orville worked as Market Research and Development Mgr. He later became sales mgr. And in 1979 was promoted to Vice President a position he retired from in Sept 1990 and moved to Fargo, ND. where he got involved with SCORE an organization for retired executives who counsel business owners. Orville is preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He is survived by his wife Harriet, son Mark of Los Angeles, Ca., daughter Susan and son in law Randall Bush of Castle Rock, Co. Two sisters Joyce Michaelson, Watertown, SD. And Grace Clausen, Cashmere, Wash. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to your charity of choice. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. There will be a visitation in the Boulger Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday and one hour before the funeral on Tuesday.
