Peter passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Villa Maria in Fargo, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 91. Peter Joseph Neisen, the son of Peter and Rose Neisen, was born on February 15, 1930, in Mahnomen, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Mahnomen High School. At the age of 19, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War on the USS LSM(R)-517 Rocket Ship. He always put in an extra effort to honor his country. On June 2, 1954, Peter was united in marriage to Dorothy Anderson. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Pete retired in 1993 after 35 years with B.H. Chesley Co. Freightliner truck dealership in Fargo. He had a successful career, as he advanced from General Manager to President and finally retiring as Part-Owner at the age of 63. After retiring, Pete and Dorothy enjoyed their winters in Port Aransas, Texas for 30 years. During his time there, he went on many day and overnight deep sea fishing trips where he caught numerous red snapper, tuna and a variety of other fish. He also traveled to Alaska several times for deep sea fishing. If he was not fishing on a lake, he enjoyed woodworking and hunting. He loved his geese and had to visit them every day in Moorhead. He even named a few! Pete was very successful in the Stock Market. Those who knew him, laughed at his love/hate relationship with it. Pete was extremely active and generous within his community. This year he will be honored as the first ever 70-year member of the American Legion. He embraced his Catholic faith all his life and was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo for 57 years. After retiring, he even volunteered to sweep the floors of the church once a week. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his children and his three generations of grandchildren. He loved spending time with them, watching them grow, and being a witness to their accomplishments. He taught his grandchildren how to fish and was so happy to reminisce about those special times. He also shared a very special bond with his niece Judy. After losing a grandson to cancer, he was always considerate and had a special place in his heart to those who were ill or in need. Peter is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Al (Cindy) Neisen, Moorhead, MN, Gerald (Shelly) Neisen, Harwood, ND, Mark (Liz) Neisen, Kenny (Kim) Neisen, both of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Sarah (Eric) Becker, Scott Neisen (Nachelle Johnson), Chris Neisen, Nick (Shannon) Neisen, Anne Neisen (Noah Mack), Ryan (Stephanie) Clenney, Ashley Seibold, Mike (Jayme) Rey, and Michelle (Brian) Johnson; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 1. I didn’t know Peter personally, but his son Mark always spoke highly about him and enjoyed fishing and hunting with him. My thoughts and prayers are with Peter and his family. May God bless them all.

  2. So sorry to hear this about my Dear Friend Pete. Spent winters in Port Aransas, fishing with Pete. I got to know Pete and Dorothy at Aransas Princess. I put fishing Charters together and took groups out on long Tuna trips and Red Snapper trips and Pete was always ready to go. He was a great fishermen and a great sport out on the boat. He would always tell me to call him when we needed to catch bait for our long trips. So we would meet at the Air Port and have a great time fishing. I don’t think he ever miss a trip in my 26 years of doing these trips. So he will be miss this next winter, not seeing him in Port Aransas. A fishing friend of his.Lolita Haines,

  3. I have known the Niesens for close to the 30 yrs going to Port A, Tx. What a fun person with all his fishing stories as each fish he caught got bigger and bigger. We visited each other many times through our long friendship. My prayers are with Dorothy and family at this difficult time.

  4. Such a great man. I have wonderful memories of he and Dorothy at the lake- he was quite the fisherman way back when! My deepest condolences to your family
