Phyllis Gludt, 79, West Fargo, ND passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Phyllis Ann Borg was born December 9, 1935 to Archie and Junice (Monson) Borg in Powers Lake, ND. Her dad said it was the coldest winter on record. Phyllis attended grade school in a one room school house in Lunds Valley, ND and graduated from High School in Stanley, ND.
In 1949, when her mother died, the family’s lives were forever changed. They moved to Moscow, ID for one year before returning to Stanley.
Phyllis worked for an abstract company, a busy business, as it was during the ND “50’s” oil boom. She met Francis (Tex) Gludt and they married on April 23, 1954 at the Catholic Church in Stanley, ND. They lived in Kenmare where Tex was employed by Northwestern Bell. They were transferred to Bismarck, ND where their first child Roberta was born.
In 1955, they moved to Watford City. Four more children were born there, Pamela, Nicholas, Mary, and Patricia. Homemaking was a very important part of Phyllis’ life. She was a talented seamstress sewing many outfits for her four daughters. During their time in Watford City, Phyllis was active in the Epiphany Catholic Church. She was instrumental in starting the Mrs. Jaycees and later was the State Vice President. Phyllis met many wonderful friends while playing Bridge, which became her favorite hobby. Other hobbies she enjoyed included needlepoint, cross stitch, and hardanger. She made all her grandchildren personalized Christmas stockings.
In 1966 Tex and Phyllis moved to Williston. There Phyllis became PTA President at Lewis & Clark School and a 4-H Leader. Tex was involved in the Lions Club and Phyllis was the chair of the women’s program for the district convention. She was active in Catholic Daughters and organized Women’s Cursillos.
In 1979, Tex and Phyllis moved to Fargo where she worked at Holy Spirit Church for six years and the Chamber of Commerce for three years.
After retiring, Tex & Phyllis traveled all over the world and spent winter months in Florida and Arizona. During her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at local hospitals beginning at St. John’s, then Dakota Heartland, and last Meritcare/Sanford.
Her beloved husband of 59 years, Tex, passed away on December 9, 2013.
Phyllis eloquently fought a battle with cancer for the past five years. She took pleasure in the small things such as her daily crossword puzzles, going to church, breakfast with friends, watching the Bison Football games, and her favorite of all, playing Bridge.
