Ray was united in marriage to Marion Hausten on December 26, 1954.  They moved to Seattle and Ray worked as a design engineer for Boeing Aircraft Plant and later as a land surveyor for the City of Seattle.  They moved to Renton, WA and later moved to Fergus Falls, MN where he worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  He also worked for KBN Engineering in Grand Forks and Ulteig Engineers until he retired in 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Marion of Fargo; his children, Debbie (David) Tarbell of Jamestown, ND; Ginger Anderson of Fargo; Wanda Lauinger of Fargo; Laurel (Joseph) Kelly of Fergus Falls, MN; and Terri (Dan) Elstad of Moorhead, MN; his fourteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Herbert; one sister, Evelyn Rose; and a son, David Schumacher.
