Richard Allan Hutchison, age 94, Caledonia, ND, died on January 14, 2009, at Hatton Prairie Village. Richard was born on February 14, 1914, to John and Grace (Stark) Hutchison near Caledonia, ND. He graduated from Caledonia Consolidated High School in 1932. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps for 10 months, and he spent six years in the North Dakota National Guard Company L, 164th infantry in Hillsboro. Richard married LuVerne Hagen on June 21, 1944, in Moorhead, MN. After farming for over 40 years, he worked for 18 years as the bookkeeper for Interior Lumber in Hillsboro. Richard and LuVerne lived on the family farm near Caledonia until they retired and moved to Hillsboro. The last few years they lived in assisted living at Tufte Manor in Grand Forks and the past two months at Hatton Prairie Village. Richard was baptized at the Caledonia Methodist Church which later joined the Hillsboro Wesley Methodist Church. The Methodist Church in Hillsboro later combined with the U.C.C to form the United Parish Church. He was proud to serve that parish as its first treasurer ? a position that he held for many years. At the time of his death, Richard was the oldest member in United Parish. For many years Richard reported the rainfall from the Caledonia area to the weather bureau in Bismarck. Richard was a steward of the land and of his cattle. He was always proud of a hard day?s work well done. Richard enjoyed watching his sons participate in athletic events and in later years he enjoyed watching his grandsons ? Bryan in hockey and track and field, and baseball; and Daniel in basketball, baseball, football and track and field. He loved watching and listening to the Minnesota Twins each summer ? in particular the celebrations at the ends of the games the Twins won. Conversation, whist and cribbage games, and remembering dates, places and events were always things that Richard loved to be a part of. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Alveretta Olson, Doris Hewitt, Eleanor Steinborn-Gage, Phyllis Skowronski, and an infant brother John. He is survived by his wife LuVerne; son John (Lonny) Northwood, ND, and grandson Daniel (Adrienne) Tequesta, FL; son William (Donna) Grand Forks and grandson Bryan (Melissa) Eden Prairie, MN, great-grand children Cade and Nora; and son Neil (Anne) Bismarck, ND, step-grandson Jeff (Stephanie) Bloom and step great-grand children Connor and Brody; step-grandson Ryan (Tammy) Bloom; and step-grandson Cory Bloom , step great-grandchildren Eve and Isaac; one brother Robert (Ann) Fosston, MN; two sisters-in-law Evy Hagen and Kathleen Hagen both of Minneapolis and many nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 4-6 PM Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro ? and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Monday FUNERAL: 11 AM Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Hillsboro United Parish UCC-UMC BURIAL: Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia, ND (in the spring) Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
