Richard Rummelt
September 30, 1956 ~ August 10, 2012
Richard Dale Rummelt passed away suddenly on August 10, 2012. Richard was born on September 30, 1956 in Greenville, Michigan to Herman (who preceded him in death) and Judith Rummelt.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Li and son, Long. He is additionally survived by his mother, Judy and brother, Herman; nephews, Brent Rummelt, Nick Rummelt, and Ryan Rummelt; nieces, Teagan Rummelt, and twins, Samantha and Sydney Rummelt.
Richard received a Bachelors and Masters degrees in Computer Science and Software Engineering from Grand Valley State University. At the time of his death, he was completing his Ph.D. at North Dakota State University (NDSU).
Richard was a senior lecturer in the computer science department at NDSU and was looking forward to teaching his classes this fall. He will be missed by his current and former students who rated him one of the best teachers at the University.

Belding MII met Richard (Rick) 40 years ago and he always had such a smart mind, good heart and potential to do anything he put his mind to. I was talking with friends 3 weeks ago who knew Richard from many years ago, and I was saddened to hear that he has left this earth. I will always have fond memories of the fun we had at Wabasis park canoeing on the lake. My condolences to his family.
I was shocked and saddened by the sudden departure of Richard. He was my boss, he taught me how to program, and he was my friend.

Richard will be missed in our hearts. Li and Richard are good friends. We spent many hours looking at all the work they have been doing on there lovely home. Truly a big loss to all.

I was shocked to see Richard’s obituary in The Forum. I was the System’s Administrator in the CS Dept at ND
SU and got to know Richard there. God’s peace and strength to his family and friends during this awful time.

I had the honor of performing the wedding ceremony for Richard and Li. I also had the honor of being inducted into the U.P.E. Honor Society by Richard. He was a scholar and a gentleman and I will miss him.
Richard and I were distant cousins who met late in life and fast became friends. He also became an inspiration to me. Richard thank you for being a part of my life. I miss you and probably always will. Thoughts and prayers go out to Li and Long. HUGS!!!!
Richard taught me my first college class in computer science back in 2011/2012. Back then, I was pursuing a degree in physics. It was Richard, through his classes, showed me how computers were powerful and interesting. That there was something magical about being able to create programs that ultimately interacts with another human. It was Richard, who spent his time outside class advising, that ultimately convinced me that a career in software engineering was worthwhile.
Thanks to Richard, I graduated from NDSU in 2015 proudly as one of the first computer science.& physics major students. Thanks to Richard, I have obtained fulfillment and success from the last 8 years working as a software engineer.
I’m sad that perhaps more lives would have been touched if Richard were still around to spread his love for teaching computers and programming. And yet, I take solace in knowing that Richard lived a fulfilling life that he took pride in.
