Our Dad, Robert Eugene Jorgenson, 83, Moorhead, MN died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Sheyenne Crossings Care Center, West Fargo, ND. “Bob” was born on July 12, 1927 in Lily, SD, the son of Carston and Ida (Hogstad) Jorgenson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Wallace, SD. He graduated from Lily High School and served in the US National Guard during the Korean Conflict alongside his brother, James Jorgenson. He married Patricia Juell on May 2, 1958 in Moorhead, MN. They had lived in Grand Forks, Mayville and Hillsboro, ND before moving to Halstad, MN in 1963. They were married for 40 years at the time of her death on August 9, 1998. He was self-employed as a water well driller in the late 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Thereafter, he later went to work for Transystems, Inc until his retirement.
Dad was a simple but strong man who worked hard all the days of his life and took quiet pride in being a husband, father and grandfather. Simply put, Dad always put his family first as exemplified by his determination to provide for his family. He was a jack of all trades. There was nothing he could not master once the decision was made to tackle a project. He was a self-proclaimed “news-junkie” and he was a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He loved to discuss politics and was well read on current events. As he would say “not much gets past me”. He traveled to his homeland, Norway to see his father’s people. He loved dabbling in buying and selling cars. He was a good father, grandfather, son, son-in-law, brother and uncle. He spoke very logically and in his words, he was a “realist”. He often said he had softened through the years. His wife was his very life and in her he was made strong and complete. Their marriage of 40 years brought forth much joy and many trials. As one, they were able to bear what was dealt them. Their beginnings in life together were humble and they ended their life together in the same fashion. He was protective of his children and loyal to his wife. He named his daughters after the famous actresses of the day as Mom and Dad often spoke about Dad’s quiet, creative side. He very much enjoyed the support of his daughters in the years after our mother’s passing. We have many memories over coffee and short stacks at the Fryin Pan.
Dad is survived by us, his daughters: Rita Hill, Springfield, OR, Elizabeth (Terry) Melting, Moorhead, MN, Susan (Danny) Pinske, Waubun, MN. Our parents also helped raise his sister Elaine’s children after her death: Milo (Carol) Schierholz, Chugiak, AK, William (Judy) Schierholz, Brandon, SD, Allen Schierholz, Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special grandpa to eight Schierholz grandchildren and two great- grandchildren; a very special cousin, Eileen (Nort) Korn, Georgetown, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James, two sisters, Phyllis and Elaine, his wife, Patricia, his son, Wesley, and one grandson, Micah Hill.
God Bless the life our precious Dad.
