Robert Sailer

October 28, 1937 - July 01, 2013

Robert A. Sailer, 75, West Fargo, passed away Monday, July 1 at his home.

Bob was born October 28, 1937 in Sioux City, IA to John and Gertrude (McNulty) Sailer.  Bob moved around during his childhood, graduating from Mt. Carmel High School, Chicago, IL in 1955.  Bob attended St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN as well as NDSU.  He worked at Dakota Bank in Fargo before enlisting in the U.S. Army on January 12, 1961.  He was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS before being sent to Korea.  He moved back to Minneapolis before being honorably discharged on December 31, 1966.  Bob married Margaret Jamieson on July 20, 1963 in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fargo.

The couple made their home in Arizona from 1965-1975 where he worked as a loan officer and bank manager.  Bob was also very involved with the Lions Club in Arizona.  They then moved to Moorhead, MN where he worked at the SuperValu warehouse.  Bob retired in 2001 after 25 years of service.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren.)  He enjoyed attending all their activities ranging from baseball, hockey, bowling, concerts to plays.

Most knew Bob through his passion for auto racing, from working on Greg Johnson’s pit crew to helping his son Scott get started in racing and most recently helping his grandkids (Brandon, Reile and Gwenyth) with their racing/go-karting.

Bob is survived by Margaret Sailer, Moorhead, MN; children, Sandra Ferris, Moorhead, MN, Karen (Eric) Kessler, Fargo, ND, Scott (Darcelle) Sailer, Fargo, ND; sister, Stephanie Reining, Olympia, WA; grandchildren, Michael and Brandon Ferris, Lauren Kessler, and Reile and Gwenyth Sailer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Sailer.

There will be a prayer service on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 7 PM at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo with visitation starting at 5 PM.

Condolences to the family on the loss of a father and grandfather that set a great example for all of us in how to be involved with family. I so much appreciated his presence in the racing pits over the years I have been around racing. Bob set the example for all of us to aspire to and be proud of. Bob will be missed.
    Sincerely, David Sogge

Even though we only knew Bob for a brief amount of time he always greeted us with a smile and was very supportive of our son Wyatt as we got into kart racing.

After loosing my Father this past winter my grief is still fresh. Remember the good times and know that it was God’s time for Bob to come home.

Our sincere condolences go out to your family.
