Robert Charles Settel, Sr., 73, Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Bethany Homes, Fargo.

Robert Charles Settel, Sr. was born December 15, 1933 in Bloomfield, New Jersey where he grew up. He enlisted in the Air Force in April 1951. He served in Korea and Vietnam. Throughout his military career he traveled the world and developed a passion for foreign cultures. He retired in 1971 in Minot, ND as a Tech Sergeant in the Strategic Air Command. In 1973 he began his second career with Amtrak as a ticket agent in Minot, transferring to Devils Lake, ND in 1986. He retired from Amtrak in 1997. He moved to the Lisbon Veteran?s Home in 2000. He moved to Fargo in 2001 and was a resident at Kinder House and the Towers of Bethany Homes.

Robert ?Striker? Settel had a zest for life and enjoyed many activities?especially Rendezvous. He accumulated many antique firearms including black powder muskets. As Commander and Chief of the Settel family, he ordered the successful completion of many family gatherings. It was of utmost importance that the family unit stay intact. Family always comes FIRST.

He is survived by his former wife, Carol Hjelmstad, his children: Kevin (Dawn) Settel, Dallas, TX, Connie (Dave) Murphy, Ft. Worth, TX, Jeff (Linda) Settel, Minot, ND, Robert, Jr., Settel, Springfield, VA, Jocelyn (Loren) Holmberg, Buffalo, MN, Matthew (Bridgette) Settel, Moorhead, MN, Alex Settel, Fargo, ND, Gabe (Jennifer) Settel, Aurora, CO, Sarah Settel, Fargo, ND; and 14 grandchildren.
