Rodney Allen Laughlin, 75, of Fargo, ND, passed away on May 7, 2020 at Vibra in Sanford Medical Center. Rod was born on January 24, 1945 in Wilton ND to Mike and Olga Laughlin. Rod lived on the family farm in Wilton ND during his childhood and graduated high school in Wilton. Rod went to Wahpeton State School of Science where he earned his degree in electrical contracting. Rod played baseball in college and his love of the game carried him through his entire life. Rod married Rosalee in 1972 and together they raised six kids in Fargo ND. Rod worked for Minnkota Power and Northern States Power before opening up his own electrical shop, Laughlin Electric, serving the Fargo/ Moorhead area. Rod took his trade down to Louisiana where he donated all of the electrical labor to Extreme Home Makeover. Rod also did Extreme Home Makeover in Minot, ND and Moorhead, MN. Rod also donated the labor to install baseball stadium lighting for baseball fields in South Fargo. Rod loved the game and loved to see kids play ball. Rod cultivated many relationships in his career as an electrician, was a positive force in the community, and many loved to do business with him. Rod’s hobbies included gardening, anything home improvement or just tinkering in the garage, helping on the family farm, hunting and fishing. Rod valued his family and putting on big holiday celebrations and family get-togethers. Rodney is survived by his wife: Rosalee Laughlin of Fargo ND; sons: Barry (Charlotte) Laughlin, Brian (Jeanne) Laughlin, Brad Laughlin and Anthony (Tiffany) Laughlin of Fargo ND; daughters: Michelle (Dennis) Zeiszler of Fargo ND and Melissa (Ryan) Schlinger of Waconia MN; 19 Grandkids and 7 Great-grandkids; brother Chuck Laughlin of Gillette WY and sister Norma Hochhalter of Wilton ND. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother and sister. Pallbearers are Steven Peterson, Chad Laughlin, Michael Zeiszler, Thomas Zeiszler, Tanner Laughlin, Mason Laughlin, Charlie Laughlin, Jerome Schlinger and Trent Laughlin. Services are as follows: Visitation at Boulger Funeral Home on Wednesday May 13 from 5-7pm 123 10th St. S, Fargo ND 58103 Funeral at Nativity Church on Thursday May 14 at 11am. Visitation starting at 10am. 1225 11th St S, Fargo ND 58103 Luncheon to follow at Delta Hotel

  3. My dearest family. I have so many good memories of our family times. From dinners at Grandma and Grandpa Nyhof’s, the trip to Napa Valley, the trip as sister and hubby time to Medora, and family weddings. Just to list a few!

    Iam sorry I cannot make the trip to be at the funeral but know that Iam there in thoughts and prayers. Rod will be missed! Be strong and let’s be there for each other. Love Bev

  4. I can honestly say Rod was a great person in that he trained several young men to be great electrician. He was always ready to help in any project we would work on. Rod never got real excited if things were going wrong, he would just look at you with that —– eating grin and we would figure it out. I kind honestly say he was a great person to work with. I will miss his humor and friends.

  7. Sorry to hear of Rod’s Passing. I always enjoyed his sense of humor and good nature when on the jobsite or in the office. He was a good business man and he will be missed. Please accept my condolences.
