Roger W. Anda

October 08, 1933 - May 04, 2019

Roger W. Anda, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went home on May 4, 2019 in the loving arms of our blessed Lord.

Roger was born October 8, 1933 in Hendrum, MN to Peter and Gilma Anda. He married Berniece Ofterlie. She passed away in 1973. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Knoll in 1979.

He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1952. He attended Moorhead State College and Valley City State College. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for his father Peter Anda and then started his own company, Anda Construction. He was a pioneer in the apartment building business and built various uniquely designed buildings, starting in the early 60’s and continued for 40+ years.

Roger’s favorite saying was “do what you do best and do it often.”

He loved sports. In his early years, he played on the Anda Construction Fast Pitch Softball team, where he was the catcher and won many trophies.

He was an avid Twins fan and had season tickets for the Minnesota Vikings since 1961. He loved flying his Mooney Airplane. He was a very good pilot and there are many stories there.

Roger had a great love for the YMCA. In his early years, he spent lots of time there and never forgot the good memories of his experiences. He was also known for his step shot on the basketball court. He also spent a lot of time at the Concordia College Gym, which also has some fun stories.

He contributed to various organizations in the Fargo/Moorhead community and was proud to help those in need.

He had a contagious laugh and so enjoyed talking to people over coffee and iced tea for hours at a time. He loved being with family and traveling and shared many vacations with his loved ones.

Roger was a member of Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Betty”; children, Michael (Char) Anda, Greg Anda, Deb Anda; step-children, Andy (Cindy) Knoll, Jim Knoll, Tom (Deb Lamb) Knoll; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Hughes and nephew, John Hughes.

A golden heart stopped beating and Roger is so loved by his wife and family. He will be truly missed.

May our loving Roger rest in eternal peace.

My condolences to Roger’s family. Though you were fortunate to live with Roger for the time you had. He was a big man, not only by girth, but accomplishment. While others thought of doing something, Roger would already have it halfway demolished. May you rest in peace, friend.
