Obituary

Rosella “Rosie” Fredenburg, 80, of Fargo, ND, passed away January 18, 2019, at Elim Rehab & Care Center due to complications from Alzheimer’s, with her loving family by her side.

Rosie was born October 21, 1938 at their family farm in Pierce County, ND to John and Katherine (Vetter) Wolfe. She was a member of the Esmond, ND graduating class of 1956. One of eight children, Rosie grew up in a farming family where she developed a strong faith, honorable work ethic and strong family values.

Rosie went on to attend nursing school at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. After realizing giving shots to people was more difficult than giving shots to oranges, she re-routed her education attending Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, ND, graduating in 1958 with a Stenographic degree. While in Grand Forks, she met Joseph R. McPherson Jr. with whom she shared a 24 year marriage; their marriage was blessed with five boys. She later was united in marriage to Melvin Fredenburg on July 1, 1989.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rosie enjoyed raising her boys, attending various activities, craft shows, sporting events, spending time with her family, baking, gardening, and traveling, and dining out at Paradiso.

Rosie and Mel were members of the First United Methodist Church of Fargo, ND.

Over the years, Rosie enjoyed various jobs and opportunities to develop relationships with new co-workers at Lincoln Elementary School, K-Mart, NDSU Registrar’s Office, Fargo Chiropractic, and the Fargo Hearing Aid Center. Her loving, caring personality was something everyone loved about Rosie.

She is survived by her children, Joseph (Kimberly) of St. Cloud, MN; Jon (Rita) of Merriam, Kansas; James (Donna) of Fargo, ND; Jeffrey (Phyllis) of Broomfield, CO; Jerrod (Lisa) of Fargo, ND; step-daughter, Faye Fredenburg of Largo, FL; siblings, Patrick (Jane) Wolfe of Esmond, ND; Berneice (Dan) Reierson of Minot, ND; Shirley (Rick) Brown of Minot, ND; Timothy (Sandy) Wolfe of Esmond, ND; brother-in-law, Milt Fredenburg of Sacramento, CA; sister-in-law, Marie Fredenburg of Fairfax, VA; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mel; step-son, Neil; brothers, Elmer and Victor; sister, Harriet; two infant siblings; sister-in-law, Mary Elaine; and other extended family.

Memorials preferred to the North Dakota Alzheimer’s Association.

To the McPherson boys and your families – Your Mom was 37 and I was 25 when we met. Your Dad was selling real estate at the time and had shown us many houses. He brought us over to your house to meet your Mom and all 5 of you. Your Mom and I became instant friends – I believe we made an instant connection because I was the same age as Harriet would have been and your Mom was the same age as my oldest sister who got married when I was 5 and moved to Washington. Your Mom and I spent many hours together cooking, baking, cleaning, gardening, laughing and crying! I was a new wife and mother and I learned so much from your beautiful, classy Mom! I still to this day have recipes she gave me in her beautiful handwriting! She has always been in my heart and will be there until I see her again! I am sending my love and deepest sympathy to each of you! Rest In Peace dear Rosie.

Mcpherson family.. Words cannot express the sadness I feel for your loss of a beautiful sweet Person. Rosie was like another Mom to me.. When I was at their house with Jeff trying to dodge Jarrod.. I wasn’t treated any differently than the brothers. I have so much respect and great memories! Bless you May you be at peace. Love you all!

McPherson family: 24 years since I’ve seen Rosie but thought of her often. Decided tonight to check up on her, if I could, on the web. So so sad to see she just passed away a few weeks ago.
I worked with Rosie for a couple of years when I was newly married. She was like a mom/best friend all wrapped up in one. I could talk to her about anything and she had great stories and advice. I still have the gift she gave me when I found out I was expecting my first child. I would tease her when her and Mel were dating. My family and I moved to Bismarck in the early 90’s and we lost touch but I never went long without thinking of her. Some random memories:
She adored her ridiculously good looking sons. I still remember all their names. Jerrod would stop in the office and always hug her. That impressed me! She talked about her little grandson “Benner” a lot. Her clothes, hair, nails – perfect everyday! She was almost 30 years older than I but always treated me like a friend. What a wonderful lady! I can imagine how she loved her expanded family throughout these years. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart hurts.
