Russell Boeddeker, 81, Hillsboro ND passed away peacefully with family at his side, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, Mn. Uncle Russell was born March 12, 1938 in Hillsboro ND to Sylvester Henry “Bud” and Edna Boeddeker. He attended both Hankinson and Wild Rice boarding schools for first and second grade. After second grade, Russell attended Hillsboro Public School until he graduated in 1956. As a young child Russell loved being a member of the Kelso Barnyard Boys 4-H club showing livestock and later judging livestock with his brothers. In high school, he competed in track with lettering in the one mile. During a day of play on the family farm, Russell was severely injured in a hayloft accident, his injures were nearly fatal and required an extended hospital stay. Due to this accident, Russell had some speech impediments, but that never stopped him from enjoying life. After high school graduation, Russell received an accounting degree from North Dakota State School of Science in 1960. He enjoyed learning and continued to further his education by attending various classes at the University of North Dakota. Russell enlisted in the US Army on April 4, 1960 and was on active duty until his Honorable discharge on May 21, 1963. He was deployed both in Korea and Japan, receiving a badge as a rifle marksman. He was very proud of his time of service. His accounting career included Gamble and Robinson Hardware of Minneapolis, MN and as a traveling auditor for a multi-franchise bread company in North Dakota. He later owned and operated Rusty’s Laundromat in Hillsboro, ND. Retiring in 1981, Russell kept busy with various part time jobs and travel in the states of Washington, Arizona and North Dakota. Russell truly enjoyed time spent with family and kept close contact with everyone no matter how far away he might have been. He spent time helping with a wide variety of home and farm projects for his friends and family. His generosity and thoughtfulness will be truly missed. Russell is survived by his brothers Dallas (Mary Ann) Boeddeker, Hillsboro, ND and David (Marguerite) Boeddeker, Owatonna, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother S.H. “Bud” and Edna Boeddeker, his sister Bonnie Weatherford, and brother Gale E. Boeddeker. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, MN for all the loving care they provided for Russell and his family. 1. It was a privilege taking care of Russell during his stay at the Halstad Living Center. I much enjoyed our visits during his early years at HLC. I will miss his sly grin. Thank you for sharing Russell with us.
