Shannon Rose Seeb, 57, Fargo, ND, died at Sanford Medical Center on May 8, 2022, surrounded by family. The youngest of eight children, Shannon was born on August 25, 1964, to Arthur and Margaret (Hughes) Seeb.
Shannon was born with Down’s Syndrome, at a time when the common practice was to institutionalize babies with this syndrome. Even when encouraged by medical professionals to do this, Shannon’s parents courageously chose to raise her in the same manner as her older siblings.
Shannon attended Opportunity School and later graduated from Woodrow Wilson School. She participated in track and field events for Special Olympics and enjoyed summers at Pelican Lake, fishing, swimming, boating, gardening, and playing with friends. She was awarded the “Best Biker Pelican Lake” trophy in 1978!
Shannon wanted to do everything her siblings did, including helping with family responsibilities for meal prep, laundry, and dishes. One day she wanted to stay home by herself and decided to “skip school,” choosing to hide in her bedroom, rather than get on her bus! She loved babies and puppies, UNO games and latchhook projects, eating ice cream and opening presents. Shannon enjoyed many friends at school, the lake, and Day Support programs.
Shannon’s dad, Arthur, died in 1987, and for the next 33 years, she and her mom continued to nurture their special bond. They traveled, spent summers at the lake, and supported each other’s independence. Fittingly, Shannon died on Mother’s Day!
In 2014, Shannon moved into her very first apartment, with support, love, and care from CHI Friendship. She made new friends, participated in several community and church activities, and attended the Day Program at the Vocational Training Center.
For the last nine months, Shannon resided at SMP Health – St. Catherine North, where, once again, she was embraced with loving support.
Shannon was loved by her parents and siblings – and she loved back! Those who knew her described Shannon as caring, resilient, and strong, and she gave the best hugs! In spite of her challenges, she lived life to the fullest, and our lives are richer for loving her.
Shannon is survived by her siblings: Maggie (Milt) Mitzel, Fargo; Mary Jo (Keith) Lang, Stillwell, KS; Joseph (Jo) Seeb, Stillwater, MN; Patrick Seeb, Rochester, MN; Michelle (Joe) Martin, Fargo; Dennis (Kim) Seeb, Fargo; and Denise (Vance) Gulickson, McKinney, TX. She is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews, three great-nephews, and three great-nieces.
Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Margaret Seeb.
Shannon’s life will be celebrated with a private Rosary and Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fargo on May 14, 2022.

Thoughts and prayers sent to her family. I knew Shannon through her sister Michelle. I was able to meet and do Shannons hair a few times in the salon. She was a sweet soul that had a wonderful loving family behind her. ♡♡♡

Shannon was such a sweet soul. It made my day when I could put a smile on her face. I loved when we would go somewhere and she would hold my hand when we went shopping. I like to think she is with her mom and smiling down on us.
I did not know Shannon or the family but we just lost our dear cousin this year who also was born with Down’s Syndrome. So many parts of her obituary were so like my cousin, Rita’s, life. My aunt and uncle were also told my the doctors to but her in an institution but her parents raised her just like they had the rest of their children and she turned out to be an AMAZING woman. I think Shannon and Rita would have been such good friends being they had so much in common. May they both Rest In Peace in Gods loving arms.
She was a sweetie. Sympathy to the entire Seeb family.
Shannon was such a loving and sweet lady! She brought joy to many peoples lives, including mine. She greeted people with her beautiful smile and a big hug! Shannon will be missed by so many people.

Shannon was a true lady with her best purse. I met Shannon when her journey to live independently in her first apartment and job began in 2014! She surprised us all and was so proud! She was willing to try anything once. I enjoyed helping Shannon to spend as much time with her family, especially Bingo for snacks with mom, and she loved exchanging cards in the mail.
She taught me how to listen better, to have simple joys, and gratitude of the abilities to do daily tasks we can easily take for granted. Shannon will always be in my top influenial people I’ve supported.

Shannon was a beautiful woman I met through her brother, my friend Patrick Seeb. Later on, I got to see her smiling face at St. Anthony’s when she would come to mass with her mom. Jan and I send our prayers and wishes for peace by reflecting on the memories of this smiling young woman who lit up the world as an example God’s love and grace.
She was so amazing and kind. I truly enjoyed supporting her when I worked with her. My heart goes out to all the family members
I had the incredible privilege of working with Shannon when she moved into CHI Frienship as a DSP for her. I remember thinking how excited I was to be working with someone who would be moving into their first apartment and how I had the honor to encourage her independence!
I quickly came to love Shannon. She had this sweet nature about her, but when she wasn’t happy with something, she’d definitely let you know. She loved girltime– going shopping, various purses, and getting her nails done! She loved putting on pretty jewelry and lipstick. She took pride in looking pretty and wearing nice clothes.
In working with Shannon, I also had the privilege of meeting and getting to know her family too. They welcomed me into their homes, their lake cabin and more importantly, time with their Mom– Sannon loved the weekends so she could spend time with her Mom. I loved asking her Mom about Shannon when she was younger and enjoyed the stories she told me. I adored their relationship and special bond between them.
I have missed Shannon so much and her passing is heavy on my heart. My deepest condolences goes out to the family and may the memories help heal your hearts. She was a special lady and someone I won’t forget! ❤️
My friend Ashley Vaillancourt used to live with Shannon Seeb at her group home, but now she’s living with Erin Mariner at her group home, but tell me what time is the funeral on Saturday May 14h?

Shannon had a way of lighting up the room with her effervescent smile and never ending supply of hugs!! My sister , Barb and I were reminiscing today about all of the “good old fashioned fun” times we cousins shared growing up, the long awaited visits between Pelican Lake and Big Pine Lake .,.I can picture Shannon and I in the boat, bouncing over the waves, laughing and smiling the whole ride, and when Joey had pulled in to land, Shannon and I said together, More More More!!! And off we went for one more round!
Shannon was indeed a special Angel, raised in a family so full of endless love and the unlimited amount of awareness in which kept Shannon safe, yet allowed her to experience life’s greatest moments…admirable , to say the least…..
Such a beautiful person whom always seemed to find joy in the littlest things…now safe in the loving arms of Jesus ….dancing with the Angels in Heaven❣️

So very sorry to hear of Shannon’s passing. We spent many summers at the lake next door at Vi and Art’s and remember the time the kid’s spent together. I have very fond memories of Shannon and her happy and easy-going nature. Shannon was a special young lady. My sympathies to the family.

I didn’t know Shannon but she sounded like a happy, fulfilled person. How wonderful she strived and succeeded in so many activities and had a special bond with her mother. I’m sure she was a great asset to her family and she will be missed. Hope the memories will help you find peace.
