Stanley Nelson

Stanley Nelson, age 88, of Hunter, ND, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at the Halstad Living Center. Stanley Nelson the son of Nikolai and Carrie (Stuhaug) Nelson was born October 30, 1916 in Good Hope Township near Lockhart, MN. He was baptized and confirmed as a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Shelly, MN. He attended Lincoln Country School, rural Shelly. Stanley was united in marriage to Helen Hedrich on October 30, 1940 in Shelly. The couple farmed for four years in Shelly township. They moved to Ada, MN, where Stanley owned and operated Nelson Garage. In 1954 they moved to Hunter, ND where Stanley worked as a mechanic for State Oil & Auto until 1969 after which he worked at the Arthur Mercantile, in Arthur, ND until he retired in 1982. The couple owned Nelson?s Super Valu in Hunter. Stanley worked part-time running his own repair shop until 1990. They made their home in Hunter, ND for fifty years until Mr. Nelson entered the Halstad Living Center in 2003. Family was very important to Stanley. He and his wife celebrated their 64th year of marriage last year. He loved the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His job was his hobby, but he was also an excellent carpenter and woodworker. He is survived by his wife, Helen, Hillsboro, ND; four children, Diana (Chuck) Punton, Hillsboro, ND, Larry (Lyda) Nelson, West Fargo, ND, Sandra Riely, Hillsboro, ND, and Mike (Lisa) Nelson, Fargo, ND. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one brother, Kenneth (Darlene) Nelson, Shelly, MN, three sisters, Myrtle Klindt, Breckeridge, MN, Delores Anderson, Shelly, MN, and Ruth (Carlton) Melting, Halstad, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter. Visitation: Thursday, August 11th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro, ND . There is also visitation one hour before the funeral service at the church on Friday. Funeral Service: Friday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church of Hunter, ND.
