Stanley Smedsrud
March 27, 1930 ~ October 7, 2011
Stanley (Stan) Eugene Smedsrud passed away at his home in Fargo on Friday, October 7, 2011. Stan was born to Melvin and Ethel Smedsrud in Russell , Minnesota on March 27, 1930. He grew up in Lyon County, Minnesota and spent most of his childhood in the Russell/Tyler, Minnesota area.
He served in the Army in Japan at 16 years of age from 1946-1949. Stan returned to Minnesota and was united in marriage with Lorraine Vasek in Grand Forks, ND on January 26, 1954. Stan worked for Bridgeman Creamery in Grand Forks before he and his family moved to Fargo where he worked for B.F. Goodrich and Fargo Wilbert Vault. Stan enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed driving down any country road and watching any kind of wildlife/nature. He demonstrated to all of us, that it doesn't take a PhD to be a wise and highly admired man.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine , his son, Lon (Roxanne) Smedsrud, daughters Leanne(Dave) Pladson and Jodi (Dale) Stoll; grandchildren, : Cody,(Brooklyn NY) Cole, Chelsey Smedsurd, Jarred Chamberlain, Derek and Mallory Pladson, and Chris and Josh Baer all of Fargo, his sister, Phyllis Karbo, Sioux Falls, SD. Stan was preceded in death by, son Lee Eugene, parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters.

moorhead mnDad–I love you more than you will ever know–I am so proud of you and the life that you lived. For all the hardships you overcame, you never became bitter or held a grudge. I hope these are qualities I can someday acquire. The stories I have heard about you make me wish I would have known you when you were a young man. You were so greatly loved by all of us, and I know that you are smiling down upon us, and will be waiting for us when we get there. Rest in peace, knowing we will take care of mom and that you were loved by SO many people.

A man who didn’t have much but thought he was the luckiest person on earth to be blessed with such great fortune. A man who loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. May you rest in peace big guy. Thank you for showing me how to be a man’s man…..thank you for all the stories from days gone by…..thanks for being a great man. Rest in Peace Stan.

I always enjoyed Stan’s company. He was a very down-to-earth guy with a very big heart. Little Mallory will miss her grandpa very much. You are blessed to have had such a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
