Stella Bartholome

stella bartholome
Our beloved Aunt Stella passed away on November 2, 2020 at the age of 101. Stella Marie Bartholome was born on May 25, 1919 in McVille, ND to George and Mary (Settevig) Bartholome. When Stella was six years old, she moved with her family to Regent, ND. There she attended Regent Public Schools, graduating from Regent High School in 1937. Her post-secondary education was at Dickinson Normal School. She taught in rural schools in Hettinger County. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Education at Dickinson State College in 1954. Stella taught in ND, MO and CA. In 1955, she moved to Fargo and worked for Fargo Public Schools as a teacher and a librarian until her retirement in 1983. Stella was an educator at heart and instilled the love of reading in her nieces and nephews as young children by gifting a new book each Christmas. She also enjoyed Bridge, church activities, traveling and visiting with others. She was a member of Cathedral of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fargo since 1955. For many years, Stella was involved in Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Fargo Retired Teachers and Cass County Retired Teachers. She has resided at Rosewood on Broadway since February, 2016. Stella is survived by seven nieces and nephews, twelve great nieces and nephews and fifteen great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Mary (Settevig); her brothers John, Vincent and Walter; her sister Evangeline; an infant sister Geneva; a nephew and a great nephew. Stella’s family is grateful for the care and comfort provided by Rosewood on Broadway staff where she resided, especially the 2nd floor staffs (you know who you are). During this Covid19 time, Stella’s family have been very grateful of Rosewood staff in coordinating outdoor courtyard visits, indoor visits when allowed and the most recent window visit on Halloween Day so Stella could see some of her youngest relatives. In lieu of flowers, Stella wanted any memorials to be sent to her church, The Cathedral of St. Mary’s, Fargo, or to Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.

Guestbook

  1. Because someone special we love is in heaven, there is a little bit of heaven in our hearts. We have always considered Stella a relative as her brother, Walter, was married to Al’s Mom, Celestine “Sally” for so many wonderful years. We always enjoyed the great notes she wrote in her Christmas cards. Our thoughts and prayers to her family and friends; we know you will miss her and her wonderful smile!

  2. Stella was a warm and friendly woman whom we saw at St. May’s on Sunday mornings for many years. She has been and will be missed. God’s richest blessings on her and her extended family.
