Sylvia Aker Sheboygan, Wisconsin formerly of Hillsboro, North Dakota Sylvia passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Morningside Health Center in Sheboygan, WI at the age of 92. Sylvia T. Brosten was born on May 17, 1917 in Hendrum, MN, the daughter of R. Andrew and Karen (Skjaveland) Brosten. They moved to Cooperstown, ND, where they lived for 10 years before moving to Detroit Lakes, MN. Sylvia graduated from Detroit Lakes High School and later Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND. She worked as a secretary for the Detroit Lakes High School and the US Government in Detroit Lakes. Sylvia was united in marriage to Arnold Aker on June 13, 1943, at Detroit Lakes where they lived until moving to Hillsboro in 1950. They owned and operated Aker’s Mens Clothing Store in Hillsboro for 25 years retiring in 1975. Together they enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Pelican Lake for many years. Sylvia was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, Hillsboro Golf Club, Hillsboro Women’s Club, the Bridge card club, the Sons of Norway, Eastern Star and also served on the Hillsboro Hospital Board. She also sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and served as a Cub Scout Leader. After retirement, Sylvia and Arnold spent their winters in Mesa, AZ from 1976 until 1998. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; and her parents. She is survived by her son, John (Patricia) Aker of Sheboygan, WI; two grandsons, Matthew Aker and Thomas (Stephanie) Aker; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 2 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial: Lake Park, Minnesota Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
