Thomas Selleys
May 18, 1924 ~ December 7, 2017
Thomas (Tom) F. Selleys Sr. passed away Thursday, December 7th at the Community Living Center at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fargo, ND. He was 93 years old.
Tom is survived by his child Robin Selleys, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Selleys (Anderson), his children Suzanne, Althea, and Thomas Jr.
Tom was born on May 18, 1924 in Albany, NY to Charles and Alita Selleys. He joined the Army in March of 1940 and was stationed at the Fort Dix, in New Jersey. During WWII, he was deployed to the Pacific in Luzon, The Philippines as a Private First Class. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Upon his return home, Tom settled in Fargo, ND, driving commercial trucks and owned Tom’s Country Club Texaco gas station. Tom was always service-minded, and was part of several veterans service organizations, including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
On August 31, 1990, Tom married the love of his life Harriet. They shared many happy years together living in Edmore, ND, Thief River Falls, MN, and Fargo, ND.
In the 14 years preceding his passing, Tom was a dedicated volunteer at the VA Medical Center providing assistance and support to veterans. In total, Tom served more than 10,250 volunteer hours. For Veteran’s Day in 2010 and 2011, to foster patriotism and bring attention to Veterans, Tom went on “Honor Walks” from Fargo, N.D. to Port Abercrombie in Abercrombie, N.D. He capped his 28 mile walks by spending time with the students of Richland Elementary School, Abercrombie, ND.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and a memorial service following at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15th at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND. Memorials to the Community Living Center at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Tom was an inspiration and hero to all of us at Richland Elementary! I feel so blessed to have gotten to meet this amazing man. His family at Richland Elementary will forever be changed for the better because we got to know Tom. Because he had a vision and was an inspiration to us all, the legacy of a Veterans Day Program put on by our students for area veterans each year will go on!

I was blessed to get.to know Tom, listen to his wealth of history through life stories over a cup of coffee. He had a great sense of humor and always a smile on his face. I’m sorry for your loss, Pam and family.
Tom was always a bright spot at the Fargo VA. His smile and kindness to fellow veterans and staff were wrlcome and appreciated. Very sorry for your loss.

Chandice and I, residents of HighPointe, admired Tom very much, appreciated his interest in meditation and shared his interest in this type of music. We enjoyed opportunities for discussion with him and valued his continual upbeat attitude, always a help for the rest of us. It was our good chance to be here and have Tom as a neighbor.
To Tom’s Family, It was a great honor to know Tom from his volunteering at the VA Hospital. What a humble, dear, gentle, compassionate, and dedicated man he was! I saw him nearly every morning (with a smile on his face) when I came to work before 7am. He was often sitting at the greeter desk or throughout the day, maybe helping other Veterans throughout the building. He was an inspiration to those of us who worked there each day. And he volunteered over 10,000 hours there, what a blessing to other Veterans, and Staff. He will be missed.
Even tho I retired from the VA In December 2016, I will always remember that “smiling face” in the lobby. A great inspirational man! RIP Tom.
