The Memorial Service for Thurmon Smith will be held 2 PM Saturday, August 23, 2003, at Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro, North Dakota. Thurmon died on Thursday, August 21, 2003, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, at the age of 85. Thurmon was born on September 8, 1917, in Milsap, Texas, to James and Beulah (Clayton) Smith. He went to school in Summerton and Yuma, Arizona. He married Charline Beverly Clark in Yuma, Arizona on March 11, 1937. They lived in Paradice Valley, California and Summerton, Arizona. He farmed and drove truck until he retired in 1980. Thurmon has lived in Nielsville since 1995. He is survived by Charline Smith of Yuma, Arizona; three daughters, Karin (Rollie) Thornton, Sagle, Idaho; Bette Bratager Climax, Minnesota; Noel (Lonnie) Bell, Bishop, California; and one son, David (Shuziang) Smith, Colorado Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Beulah Smith. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
