Valborg "Vollie" Nelson

Valborg “Vollie” J. Nelson, 91, Fargo, ND formerly, Ulen, MN passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Eventide, Fargo. Vollie was born April 22, 1927 in Ulen, MN to Henry and Clara (Solum) Holte. She graduated from Ulen High School. She married Elmo Nelson on June 13, 1948 in rural Ulen, MN at Keene Lutheran Church. They made their home near Ulen, MN where Elmo and Vollie farmed. She enjoyed working with Elmo on the farm, where she drove combine and other farm equipment as well as gathering eggs from a thousand chickens. After retirement they both enjoyed spending more time outdoors and tending to their gardens and flowers. After Elmo’s death in 2001, she continued to take care of the homestead and tend to her gardens, “digging in the good clean dirt” as Vollie would say. She was an active volunteer with R.E.A.C.H in Hawley, MN and was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton, MN. She is survived by her children Vernon (Cherie) Nelson, St. Michael, MN, Paul (Lynda) Nelson, Fort Dodge, IA, Lois (David) Petricka, Shakopee, MN; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmo, daughter, Elaine Hoke; 3 grandson’s, Eric Nelson, Lars Nelson and David Hoke and brother, Arthur Holte. Vollie’s family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Eventide and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their exceptional care and friendship.
