Vernon Markey passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2004, from injuries sustained in a motor cycle accident near Pierre, South Dakota. Vernon was born on May 23, 1958, the son of Vernon and Irene (Bump) Markey, in Fargo, North Dakota. He grew up in this area and graduated from Fargo North High School. After graduation he worked at various restaurants in the area. He was united in marriage to Patty Bundy on March 3, 1984, in Fargo. Vernon later attended and graduated from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo, with a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. In 1993, he received his Master?s Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. After graduation they moved to Crookston, Minnesota, where he taught at the university. He was most recently employed for NDSU as Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for Hospitality & Tourism Management. Vernon also worked as a restaurant critic writer for the Forum Newspaper in Fargo for the past two years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and woodworking. He also liked to ride motorcycle. He is survived by his wife, Patty of Fargo; one daughter, Angela Markey of Fargo; his mother, Irene of Fargo; one sister, Mary (Everett) Johnson of Canby, MN; two brothers, Gary ?Butch? (Cindy) Markey of Moorhead, MN, and Ron (Donna) Markey of Las Cruces, NM; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and one sister, Veronica Markey. Funeral: 10:00 a.m. Friday in Triumph Lutheran Brethren in Moorhead Visitation: Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, and Friday in the church one hour prior to services.
