Virgil Torgerson, 86, of West Fargo, ND passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Sanford Health surrounded by his family. Virgil was born November 4, 1929 in rural Hickson, ND to Oscar and Clara Torgerson. He graduated from Kindred High School and began farming near Kindred. On June 8, 1958, Virgil married Arlys Jordheim at Walcott Lutheran Church. They lived near Kindred where they farmed together and raised their three children. He was a loving husband and father who always put family first. Virgil was passionate about farming and served on several boards including Kindred Elevator, Red River Valley Sugar Beet Growers Association, and FHA loan board. He also enjoyed time at the lake with family, winters in Texas, and playing a ruthless game of Canasta with anyone who would play. Virgil is survived by his wife, Arlys; his three children, Dale (Trudy) Torgerson, Kindred, ND; Diana Cole, Forest Lake, MN; Dave (Nancy) Torgerson, Kindred, ND; his grandchildren, Jared Cole, Zach Cole, Lindsey (Matt) Kazy-Gary, Alyssa Cole, Dylan Torgerson, Keely Torgerson, Devin Torgerson, and Lex Torgerson; his sisters, Marcelle Buck, Phyllis (Verdell) Jordheim, and Sharon Kotnour. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Clara Torgerson; brothers, Lyle Torgerson and Duane Torgerson; and sister, Orlin Hudson Egge. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Norman Lutheran Church, rural Kindred with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at the Kindred Cemetery.
