Vivian Rosalie Roden, age 97, died April 2, 2003, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND. She was born on May 24, 1905, to Herbert and Estella Ellis, in McHenry County, ND. She attended school in Casselton, and taught at a country school in Sharon, ND. She married Stewart Roden at St. Mary?s Cathedral, Fargo, in 1925. They celebrated 57 years of marriage, the births of six children, and the adoption of their daughter, Dona. They lived in Duluth, Minnesota, for over 20 years until Stewart died in 1982. Vivian then moved to Fargo where she has lived since. Survivors include Virginia (Edward) Merrill, Moorhead, Phyllis (Tom, Sr. deceased) Sornsin, Fargo, Donald (Doreen), Bismarck, David (Mary Ann) and Susan (Robert) Thomson, both Duluth, and Dona Sara, Seattle, Wash. She enjoyed her 27 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stewart; and her infant son, baby Stewart. Vivian loved presiding over her large family and all the new babies. She taught a love of the outdoors to all. She cherished the time spent researching and writing her family history. Vivian loved to travel and always had her suitcase packed. She was an active member of the D.A.R. Organization. Funeral: 1:30 PM Saturday, April 5, 2003, at St. Leo?s Catholic Church in Casselton, North Dakota Visitation: 4-5 PM Friday at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo; and one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday Burial: St. Leo?s Catholic Cemetery in Casselton.
