Wallace "Wally" Swenson

wallace
Wallace Irving Swenson, 75 years of age, passed away on Thursday, May 12th, 2022, at Bethany Retirement Living. Wally was born October 17th, 1946, in Fargo, ND to the late Irving and Juliet Swenson. He was the youngest of three children. Wally attended country school in his early years and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Agriculture from NDSU in 1968. He then enlisted in the army and faithfully served our country in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and returned home to farm alongside of his father. He was a man of many trades including carpentry, working at the Kindred elevator, and later working as the floor manager at the Golden Gate Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wally met Frances Elizabeth and it was "love at first sight". They were inseparable and were married in 1982 at his parent's farm in rural Leonard, ND. The job he felt the least qualified for, ironically brought him the most honor, and that was being a husband, a dad, a grandfather and great grandfather. He was great at all these positions. Wally was very talented and artistic. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles, reading and even painting for a while, but the real joy in his life was spending it with his wife, Fran. Wally leaves behind his children, Calvin Herk, Finley ND; Cameron (Lisa) Herk, Detroit Lakes MN; Kevin (Jane) Herk Horace ND; Brandi (Anthony) Thornton Fargo ND; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 PM Friday, May 20, 2022, at Fredrikson-Boulger Funeral Chapel in Kindred, ND – with a gathering one hour prior. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Full Military Honors will take place immediately following the funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Fredrikson- Boulger Funeral Chapel in Kindred, ND. To sign the online guest book, please visit our website at www.boulgerfuneralhome.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Wally and Fran were our best friends for many years. They will always be missed. Sympathy and condolences to all of the family.

  2. Wally was my class mate in high school and college as well as a fellow AGR fraternity brother. He was a very intelligent man. School came easy for him. He had a quiet demeanor that was always correct. I remember racing his ’56 black 4 dr. 6 cyl with my ’53 Merc. Quite a battle. His ’63 1/2 Ford Galaxie was sure a head turner.
Memories galore. Rest in peace my friend.

  3. We were at NDSU at the same time and did some drive sharing with Merle, Lyle, Wally and me to go out for supper at Woods Cafe in Moorhead for home cooked meals. He was fun to be with enjoyed his friendship. You have my sincere sympathy. Jon Rich KHS class of 65.

  4. My sympathies on the passing of a years ago neighbor. Enjoyed the entire Swenson family, Jim, Jeanette ( who I graduated high school with) and if course Wally. My best wishes for his families.

  5. So sorry to hear of Wally’s passing, he was a good man. You have our deepest sympathy. Kent an Jan Lahren
