Wallace “Wally” G. Utke, 80, Fargo passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at Essentia Health, Fargo.

Wally was born May 20, 1932 in Enderlin, North Dakota to Walter and Laura (Krueger) Utke. He attended country school near Enderlin before graduating from Wahpeton High School in 1951. He attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952-1956. He attended Hanson Auto School where he served as an instructor and also worked at B.S. Chesley as a heavy duty mechanic. In 1964, Wally began working for the City of Fargo. He worked as a heavy duty mechanic on city equipment before retiring after 28 years in 1992.

Wally married Alida Trottier on June 4, 1960 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo. They made their home in Fargo where they raised three children; Darrell, Karen and Connie. Wally and Alida were one of the founding families of Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo.

Wally enjoyed gardening, where he loved to produce various vegetables, especially onions. He loved to keep track of the weather, watch football and professional wrestling.

Wally is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alida; children, Darrell (LeAnn) Utke, West Fargo, ND, Karen (Lori Blachford) Utke, Des Moines, IA, Connie (Maurey) Kratcha, Fargo, ND, grandchildren; Matthew, Heather, Carly, Kyle, Tiffany and Ryan, brother, Robert (Carol) Utke, Winter Haven, FL, sister, LaDell (Oscar) Sorenson, Surprise, AZ, brother-in-law, Virgil Warner, Fingal, ND and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce Warner.
