Walter Shypkowski

walter shypkowski

Walter Shypkowski, 82, of Fargo, passed away on July 11 surrounded by family at the Sanford Medical Center's Palliative Care Unit, Fargo ND.

Walter was born March 25, 1929 to John B and Mary (Evoniuk) Shypkowski of Belfield, North Dakota. He was raised in Belfield where he also attended school. During World War II, Walter served in the US Army Air Corp. On November 6, 1951, Walter was united in marriage to Tillie Ann Jablonsky at St. Mary's Catholic Church in South Heart, ND.

A self taught accordion player, Walt formed several bands and shared his love of music for over 60 years. Music was his life as it was evident in the joy it brought him and the people he entertained. Walter enjoyed playing old-time music, watching ball games, and house remodeling projects. The family has many fond memories of his kindness, his quick sense of humor, and funny stories.

After many years of service, Walt retired from the Fargo Housing Authority in March of 93'.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Tillie and their seven children; Gene (Mary Jo) Shypkowski, Rancho Palos Verde, CA, Darla (Randy) Yarbrough, Bemidji, MN, Charlene (Steve) Reinpold, Hillsboro, ND, Randy Shypkowski, Fargo, Rae Lynn Belmer, Phoenix, AZ, Joleen (Jim) Narum, Ada, MN, and Rick Shypkowski, Fargo, and his two brothers; Donald (Ann) Shypkowski, Dickinson, ND, and John (Sharon) Shypkowski, Des Moines, IA. My Deepest Sympathy to Walt’s family
What a great man and what a great band leader. Many memories of dancing to his music at so many events over the years. I remember when he quit the band so many people were crying as they said their goodbye to Walt and Joleen. I myself shed a few tears as we all know all good things must come to an end. Walt please play a waltz for all your family and friends in heaven. Your legacy will live on forever here on earth. Say hi to Leonard Z, he will be happy to see you again Walt.
    Rest well my friend.
