Wayne Leslie Brand died in his home at Seminole, Florida on Saturday, October 31, 2015 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Wayne was born June 11, 1942 in Breckenridge, MN, the eighth of nine children to Leslie and Adela Brand. Wayne attended school in Mooreton and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1959 where he was active in basketball, football, and bowling.
From December 1959 until August 1963, Wayne served in the U.S. Air Force as a base photographer which began a lifelong interest in capturing everyday moments on film. Following his time in the service, Wayne attended two quarters at Wahpeton State School of Science in pre-engineering, then went on to attend North Dakota State University graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Social Sciences. He pursued graduate work in Social and Behavioral Science at NDSU until 1972.
Wayne was elected Chairman of the North Dakota College Republicans in 1970 and was assistant Campaign Director for the 1972 gubernatorial race of Lieutenant Governor Richard Larsen. Wayne co-produced and co-edited “North Dakota Decision Makers”, a blue book on North Dakota government, politics, agriculture and economics. In 1973, Wayne became Director of Admissions and Veterans Affairs at Mayville State College for 2 years.
Wayne married Sandra L. Reinhart from New York Mills, MN in Fargo where they made their home and began new careers in real estate sales. In 1984, they helped establish Real Estate Services, Inc. where Wayne served as Vice President, then President from 1985 through 1993. Anyone buying a home from Wayne returned for his services because of his determination to help clients find their perfect home and his devotion to make a success of any sale or purchase. Wayne was active in golf, bowling, fishing and gardening while managing their real estate rental property.
Wayne was an instinctive political strategist; he found nothing more interesting than a good political discussion with his pals. He was elected Chairman of the District 45 Republican Party in 1976 where he served for 3 years. He was the Finance Chairman for the Fargo United Republican Committee.
In August 1993, Wayne and Sandi moved to Largo, FL and then on to Seminole, FL. where Wayne continued to sell real estate and enjoy entertaining and golf. They returned to North Dakota each summer for extended visits with friends and family.
Wayne was the ultimate host, enjoying cooking for his guests, and, with a smile, refilling every plate and glass. People were drawn to Wayne’s sense of humor, energy and friendship which he extended to all who touched his life. The memories he created for us are a precious gift, but the power of his personality and smile will be dearly missed.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Sandi, brothers Milton (Marge) Alpharetta, GA. and Roger (Lynda) Camarillo, CA; sisters Marlys Moellenkamp and Corrine Reber, West Fargo, ND, Janet Baker, Moorhead, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Norma Tank, brothers Elwood and Armand, niece Bonetta Brand, and nephews Jeff and Doug Brand.
