Willard Leroy Krueger was born May 13, 1934 in Lehr, North Dakota to Albert F. and Lena (Grabau) Krueger. Willard graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953. He volunteered for the draft and entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1953-1955. He was a crane and shovel instructor in Fort Leonardwood, MO and in Etajima, Japan.

On June 9, 1956 he married Ruth Thompson at Woodworth Lutheran Church in Woodworth, ND. At that time he worked for Gamble Robinson. Later, he started school at Wahpeton State School of Science in the Architectural Drafting and estimating department. In 1957, he worked for the City of Jamestown, ND as assistant City Engineer. Later he went back to his love of operating crane and shovels. In 1961, he began working at Camp Grafton, Devils Lake, ND. While in Devils Lake, the Army National Guard sent him to Fort Belvoir, VA. After leaving Camp Grafton, he became a railway mail clerk. He rode the rails from Jamestown to Miles City, MT. He later became a mail carrier at the Jamestown Post Office and later Fargo, retiring in 1990.

He belongs to the American Legion and was a life member of the AMVETS and N.A.L.C. (National Association of Letter Carriers). He was active with the A.F.L.C.I.O (49ers) and W.M.S.T.R. (Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion), where he operated the 1921 Marion Steam Shovel. He was also a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 215, Olivet Lutheran Church.

Willard was a talented craftsman, building several custom license plate birdhouses for his family. His favorite quote was “where there’s a Will there’s a way, and Will is here.”
