Wilma Kappel

Our sweet suffering servant, our mom, the giver of life, was taken by our God’s beautiful angels to see the Glory of Heaven on July 19, 2018. Mom’s heart was so big and full of love – she held everyone in her heart. She lit a room up with her love and smile. Her light was so bright and growing dim on this earth. In our God’s perfect time….He took her, this bright light, to be with Jesus in Heaven. Thank you, mom, for teaching us how to love like Jesus. Wilma was born on May 13, 1932, in Dickinson, ND to Valerian and Lucy (Urbanec) Brydl. She grew up on the Brydl farm near New Hradec attending boarding school at Sts. Peter and Paul School in New Hradec. She later attended high school in Dickinson. She caught the eye of Frank, and from that moment on love blossomed. Theirs was a love like no other. They were married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson on May 28, 1951 where they made their home. They moved to Fargo in 1992 because of health concerns and to be closer to family. Mom was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, UTU Auxiliary, Christian Mother Bible Study, and was a Eucharistic Adorer. Her family meant everything to her and she enjoyed spending time and playing games with her children and grandchildren. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker in this world. She was known for her caramel rolls and kolaches. Her heart and hands were busy teaching her family and friends how to love, how to laugh, how to live, and how to pray. Wilma is survived by her children - Doug (Renee) Kappel of Abilene, TX; Debbie (Doug) Henke of Fargo, ND; Dean (Teresa) Kappel of Boise, ID; Denise (Gene) Jordan of Bismarck, ND; Dee Ann (Dan) Magrum of Fargo, ND; her 14 grandchildren – Brianna (Nate) Larison, Zachary, Blake, and Sydney Kappel, Tyson, Justin, and Jadon Henke, Joe (Schlee) and Katie Kappel, Brittany (Ben) Schwieters, Brian Jordan, Matt Magrum, Dylan Magrum (Sequoia), and Hannah (Lukas) Eisen; and her great-grandchildren – Avion, Summer, August, and Kayson, and two special little ones soon to arrive. Also surviving are her siblings – Martha Reisenauer and Ray Brydl, both of Dickinson, ND; and Janice Baker of Fargo; and many dear in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings – Laudie Brydl and Larry Brydl, and many other special relatives including her uncle, Fr. Laudislaus Brydl. Thank you to all the people who listened to Jesus’ calling to come to the aid of our mom during her last days on this earth. Those special Angels, we, as a family of Wilma would like to thank are all of the wonderful doctors and nurses at Essentia, especially nurses Britta and Mary. Thank you and God bless all of you. What a treat, I was able to take the North Coast Limited (Northern Pacific Train) from St. Paul, MN to Dickinson ND every summer when I was a young teenager visiting Cousin Doug and the entire Kappel Family, sleeping over and just having summer fun hanging out will all my Cousins!!! Aunt Wilma taught me to spread some JOY every day. Such a kind individual with the biggest heart of all…………..I will dearly miss talking to her on the phone. 13. I had the honor and privilege to have met Wilma in my capacity as one of the van drivers at Riverview Place. Always cheerful, we had many wonderful and often funny discussions as I was driving her to various appointments. When we returned, she would always thank me by saying, ” You are such a good boy”! I always had to chuckle at this…I am 66 years old!
Wilma, may God hold you close and please know I will miss you and your beautiful smile and sense of humor!
