Dorothy Frances Burmeister (born Dorothea Francisca Wehage), 91, Fargo passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Bethany on 42nd surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born May 16, 1929 in Marysburg, Sask., Canada to Herman and Pauline (Gessner) Wehage. Her family moved to Fargo in December of 1931 where she grew up and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1947. After graduation, she worked in the Credit Department of Sears, Smith Inc., and the City of Fargo Auditor’s Office.
She enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1955 until her honorable discharge on November 26, 1958. Dorothy and Carl J. Burmeister were married August 16, 1958. They lived at various military bases in the southern United States. In 1968, she returned to Fargo where she worked for the City of Fargo Police Department from 1969 until retiring in 1993.
Dorothy was very active at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and where she served as a Communion Minister, volunteered in the Office, as Sacristan, and was active in various other capacities. Family was very important to her and she was blessed with 4 children. Her true joy was spending time with her 6 grandchildren and being part of their lives. She made a point to attend as many of their activities as she could.
Her final days were spent with the ones she loved the most, her family. She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.
Dorothy is survived by her 4 children: Maria Flieth, Fargo, ND, Carla (Al) Eisner, Portland, OR, Heidi (Paul) Daugherty, Wolverton, MN and Eric (Delane Brown) Burmeister, Savannah, GA, 6 grandchildren; Kelli (Ian) Evanson, Fargo, ND, Andrea (fiancé Tyler Mattson) Daugherty, St. Paul, MN, Brooklyn Burmeister, Cleveland, OH, Brian Eisner, Salt Lake City, UT, Austin (Olivia) Daugherty, Horace, ND, Allen Daugherty, Wolverton, MN, brother; Robert (Laurie) Wehage and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl, brother, Richard “Stretch” Wehage and sister, Helen Pfeifer.
Prayer Service: 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February, 18, 2021 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 6:00 P.M.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 19, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. Both services will be live streamed on Boulger Funeral Home’s website at www.boulgerfuneralhome.com.
Interment with Military Honors: Holy Cross Cemetery North, Fargo.

Dorothy was a wonderful mother-in-law, visiting us almost every year during birthday week (my wife’s, Dorothy’s, and my son’s) before becoming unable to travel. Carla and I marveled at Grandma’s ability to induce our infant son to nap, and I especially looked forward to her “nulicious” (nutritious & delicious) salads at holidays.

I met Dorothy the year I taught Eric in second grade at St Anthony’s in Fargo. Eric was a delightful, gentle soul and when I met his mom, it was easy to see why. Dorothy was kind, supportive, open and generous. She was a quiet woman of substance and we were all better for having known her.
Dorothy was our next door neighbor at Stonebridge Apartments for many years. Together, she and I went to Moorhead to get our hair fixed every Friday. Oh, how she loved to play cards on Wednesdays! She will be missed by many. Our condolences to your family.
My most sincere condolences to the family of Dorothy. We were working for the Fargo Police Department at the time I met her. She was a very lovely gal and I am sure will be missed by her family and friends.

Dorthy was an amazing woman to work with at the Fargo Police Dept. She earned the nickname Captain Dot when she ran the records dept. When I was activated for the military she sent me a letter every week and care packages to share with everyone. God bless you Captain Dot, and thank you for your service.
I am so sorry for your family’s loss. My Dad and Stretch were best friends for over 70 years and I got to know Dorothy through healthcare. She was always protective of her “little” brother. I always loved seeing her and catching up. She certainly was a special lady.

I have many warm childhood memories of the Burmeister home. Dorothy was always a strong, steady, and kind Mom that you could depend on. It never seemed to matter that I wasn’t one of her own children, she was nurturing to all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be greatly missed and her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her children and grandchildren.
Your mother will be greatly missed. I enjoyed working with her everyday! She will always have a special place in my heart. I am so sorry for your loss, your family is in my thoughts.

Dorothy was such a pleasure to see her and the gang at FPD records. We always had a great conversation and maybe a story or joke….they made that part of my day enjoyable. Fonder memories of a fine lady. Rest in Peace.
My fondest memories of my Aunt Dot was our Family dinners at Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. What a beautiful family we have! My sincere condolences to the lovely family of Dorothy Burmeister Dorothy was a well poised, gracious and classy lady, a good friend and always smiling. We worked together at the Fargo Police Dept back in the mid 70’s. We had a lot of fun together with work, gatherings and outings. She was also my coffee server at my wedding in 1982. So many great memories. She was devoted to her family and family meant so much to her. Hold all your precious memories close to your heart always. Rest in peace Dorothy.

Your Mom will be so very missed by everyone she touched. I will always remember her kindness to my Mom and myself. She truly cared about people. Always having a warm smile with comforting words. I am very thankful that my Mom, Gert had such a kind and special friend all these years. Dorothy was a true friend.
We are so sorry to read of Dorothy’s passing. She was a special cousin and we always enjoyed visits with her. Heaven definitely has a new angel.
