Obituary

Nick Moret Jr., 78, Fargo, ND passed away Thursday, December 30th in his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Nick was born March 3, 1932 in Worthington, MN.  He grew up in St. Paul, MN and graduated from Harding High School.  He and Arlene Mohwinkel married on June 28, 1952 in St. Paul at Grace Lutheran Church .  They moved to Fargo, ND in 1956 where they raised their family of five children.

They have been members of St. John Lutheran Church for over 50 years where Nick served on the Church Council, a Building Committee, Call Committees, and taught Sunday school.  Nick was a member of the Republican Party, serving as District Chairman, Region Chairman and a member of the Governor’s Executive Committee.  Nick had a long career in sales as well as a retirement job at North Dakota State University at the Residence Dining Center Convenience Store, which turned into a labor of love for 17 years.  In 1997 Nick was the proud recipient of the Gunkelman award for making NDSU a happier place.  The best part of the job for Nick were the students – he loved them all!!

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; three sons, Mark (Pam) Arden Hills, MN, Paul, Excelsior, MN, John (Lae) Snohomish, WA, and two daughters, Linda Moret Lopez (Manuel), Alpine, CA and Carol Neale (Daniel) New Brighton, MN, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews and countless friends and acquaintances around the country and the world. chula vista CAI would like to take the time to tell you that my Grandpa was and will always be the definition of a Great MAN, and grandpa.
I know now that he is no longer in pain. God took this man and made him an angle to look down on us. Me and my daughter were truly blessed to have him as Our grandpa. He touched so many people with his kindness and He did live his life to the fullest. I know he’s smiling down on us. GRANDPA WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU. ME AND CELINA MISS YOU SO MUCH. AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. WE LOVE YOU.

Fargo What a wonderful man, we feel very lucky to have had him in our lives and that of our kids as ‘Grandpa Nick’. He was someone obviously living life as a person of faith. An inspiration to me and many others. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who loved him.

Goodland KansasHad the honor of knowing Nick through his son Paul my high school friend. I could tell a lot of great stories how Nick was like a father figure and a friend to all Paul’s friends. I think the greatest story I can share was 2 years ago when our friend Jerry Q passed and Paul was unable to attend the service, I was told that Nick stood up and said “I’m here representing my son Paul”
I wasn’t surprised that Nick did that, that’s just the way he rolled, a straight up guy that loved everyone especially his family.
And if you needed him he was there in a heartbeat. Man I love that about him. I called Nick up after I heard and we talked and laughed about old times. Nick save me a seat next to Ingy, Curf and Palmer at the big poker table in the sky, I know GOD will have you as the dealer, until then my friend. God’s Blessings and Strength to all your family at this time of need. Your friend Jeff Soper

To the family of Nick Moret,
    I attended ND
SU from 2004-2008 and, though Nick probably didn’t know it, I was always so happy to see Nick’s friendly face and receive a kind word from him because it was a piece of home in a new and different environment. I was definitely touched by Nick’s kindness on ND
    SU’s campus.

Wheat Ridge COArlene & family –
Nick was one of my heroes in so many ways. His smile, his warm sense of humor, his “churchmanship” all made him one of my favorite people while I was at St. John. While I’m sad for you and for me, I also rejoice today because I know that Nick now dwells with all the saints – because he truly was one. Please know that Nancy & I are praying for you in this grieving time.
