Yvonne Ike Edgeton Benn, 83 years of age, died on March 9, 2015, at home, in Fargo, ND.
Yvonne was born in Ada, MN on January 11, 1932 to Henry Ike and Bertha Marie Bowyer Ike. She had two sisters, Eileen Ike Hovden Blake and Janice Ike Eken.
Yvonne lived in Ada until her marriage to Ronald Edgeton where they resided first in Ellendale, ND, and then Fargo. After their divorce, Yvonne moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. She met and married George Benn and resided in the area for many years. They later moved to Southern California in the mid 1980’s. After their divorce, Yvonne remained in Southern California in Corona. She retired in 2002 and moved to Fargo that same year.
Yvonne had three children, Bruce Wayne Edgeton, Shawn Marie Edgeton Rojas (Miguel) and Timothy Ron Edgeton.
She leaves behind two grandchildren, Kayla Edgeton and Tyler Edgeton, both in Fargo. She also leaves behind two step-grandchildren, Monica Queirolo and Christian Rojas. Yvonne also had four great grandchildren, Adriana and Jayden Rojas and Arella and Enzo Quierolo.
She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.
She earned her teaching degree at NDSU and later went to Hamlin Law School in Minneapolis, MN for one year. She subsequently took numerous post-graduate courses to further her teaching credentials. She was a Resource Specialist for learning disabled students in the Minneapolis area and Southern California.
Yvonne was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church of Fargo. With her sister, Janice Eken, they were responsible for the Sunday School programs at Hope for many years. After leaving Fargo, her sister continued the work they started at the church. She was also the first woman on the Church Council at Hope during the 1960’s.
Yvonne requested that her Red Hat Society sisters be designated as her honorary pallbearers.
The family would also like to give special thanks to our cousins, Kim Eken Wyatt, Karen Eken Gibson, Kris Eken Frederichs, and Steven Hovden for all their help with our mother while she was residing in Fargo, and for their help throughout this difficult time.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and her son Timothy.
Her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Ada, MN, at a later time.
