Adeline Christine Hartl went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 14, 2009, in Dilworth, MN at Serenity Assisted Living, while receiving care from their dignified and compassionate staff. Adeline was born on April 24, 1913 on a farm in Eden Prairie, MN. She was the oldest daughter of Math and Apollonia (Schneider) Marshall. In 1919 they moved to a farm in Shakopee, MN where Adeline attended Catholic School at St. Mark?s. She later moved to Minneapolis to further her education and took up nursing. She then worked in the nursing field for 15 years in the Minneapolis area. She married Irvin Hagen, Deputy Seed Commissioner of North Dakota in 1953 in Shakopee. They moved to Fargo, ND. Irvin died in 1966. Adeline began working as an Executive Secretary for the Queen of Peace Retreat Center in Fargo under the direction of Father Dennis Schue. During her years at the retreat center, Adeline had the honor of caring for Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. In 1973 Adeline married Francis Hartl of Alice, ND at St. Mary?s Cathedral in Fargo. They moved to the family farm in Alice following their marriage. Adeline and Francis were soul mates and did everything together. Francis died in 2001. Adeline moved back to Fargo in 2002 and in May of 2006, she moved into Serenity Assisted Living where she considered the staff and other residents to be her family. With all her gifts, used for the benefit of others, she left this world a better place to live. All memorials are directed to the Serenity Assisted Living Memorial Fund at State Bank and Trust, Adeline Hartl Memorial, 3100 13th Avenue South, Fargo, ND 58103. She is survived by her children: Barbara Gunst, Clovis, CA, John (Mary) Hagen, South Bend, IN, Susan (Steve) Donhoff, New Market, NH, Michael (Cheryl) Hagen, Yerington, NV; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; sisters; Frances (Jean) Johnson, Delano, MN, Delores Wilbert, Eden Prairie, MN; brothers: Elmer (Kathryn) Marshall, Harold (Marie) Marshall, Shakopee, MN; and brother-in-law: Leonard ?Kirk? (Bernice) Kirkhoff, West Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and four sisters: Irene Dimler, Sally Trutnau, Charlotte Vatca, and Carol Baer. Prayer Service: Friday, 5:00 P.M. St. Mary?s Cathedral, Fargo, ND with visitation on hour before the service. Funeral Mass: Saturday 10:00 A.M. St. Mary?s Cathedral. Burial: St. Henry?s Cemetery, Alice, ND
