Alan Ronald Kath was born July 2, 1938 to Albert and Druzilla Huse Kath in Campbell Township and baptized in St.Paul’s Lutheran Church in Campbell, MN. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1957 and from Wahpeton NDSSS in Electrical Technology in 1960.

Alan was united in marriage with Sheila Mellon September 3, 1960. They initially made their home in Campbell and moved to West Fargo in 1961 where their son Joel was born. In 1967, the family moved to Fargo where their son Jay was born.

He worked at Gaffney’s and then joined GR Graphics in 1971 as Service Manager until retiring in 1998. His career spanned nearly 40 years in copier and business systems including Rico, 3M, and Sharp.

Alan and Sheila enjoyed trips to Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean and all over the US. He enjoyed time and doing projects at the cabin on Big Pine Lake as well as cooking, canning and gardening. Upon retiring, he enjoyed their annual road trip, crossing the country from Fargo to Florida to Phoenix and back.

He was always active in LCMS churches, St. Paul’s in Campbell, St. Andrews in West Fargo and Grace Lutheran in Fargo, serving on many boards.

He was extremely proud of his family and supported their children and grandchildren in various activities. Alan has been a lifelong sports fan and especially loved attending Bison Football for over six decades.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Arlo Kath and David Kath and sister Norma Hansen.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila, sons Joel (Nancy Frost) and Jay (Laurene); Grandsons Jarek Kath, Jamison (Eve) Kath, Tyler Kath and granddaughter Alyssa (Christian) Triplett, great granddaughter Ada Kath and two more great grandchildren on the way. Alan is also survived by sisters Jean (Eugene) Marquardt and Joan (LeRoy) Anderson, brother-in-law Bud (Linda) Mellon, sister-in-law Shirley Kath, and many nieces and nephews.

The family is ever grateful for the supportive care from the entire Ethos Home Care and Hospice organization.

A visitation will take place from 1:00-2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. A graveside service will take place at 9:30 AM Saturday morning at Riverside Cemetery, Campbell, MN.

    Cindy and I are very grateful that we got to know Alan. We always enjoyed seeing and visiting with him. I enjoyed talking college sports, gardening, and old times. I will treasure these memories. Alan will certainly be missed, but not forgotten. He was a good man and heaven must certainly have a place for him.
