Born in: Ft. Benning, Georgia
Resided in: Fargo - formerly of Galesburg, North Dakota

Albert Elliott Jr., 79, passed away peacefully in his Fargo, ND home on Friday February 21, 2025.

He was born in Fort Benning, Georgia, to Albert and Lorraine (Diemert) Elliott. He was raised in, and lived most of his life in Galesburg, ND, and was one of eleven children. He took pride in and was actively involved in his community, loving that he knew most everyone in and around the area and was proud to be part of it. Al graduated from Clifford-Galesburg High School in 1963. Following High School, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from North Dakota State University. He also wrestled for NDSU and had the quickest pin there back in the day. During college he trained with the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, leading to becoming a commissioned officer in the Army, serving in the 39th Engineer Battalion, unit affiliation with the 101st Airborne Division. He was assigned to the S4 Battalion in Logistics in 1969, stationed in Chu Lai, Vietnam where he served two tours of duty, earning the NDSM (National Defense Service Medal), VCM (Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal), VSM (Vietnam Service Medal), and ARCOM (Army Commendation Medal) and honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1970. He decidedly made this exit even though he was just months shy of being promoted to Captain.

Al was a loved and respected father of 4, a grandfather, a husband, a brother, an uncle, a friend and a businessman. He achieved his childhood dream of running a crop and cattle farming operation and had a keen talent, like no other, for all things cattle, a gifted ‘Cattleman’. The stock market, being a member of the large, extended Elliott family, as well as attending tri-state area cattle auctions provided him great joy. He had a place in his heart for NDSU that included fond experiences and memories of his time at the NDSU Farmhouse Fraternity and being a multi-sport Bison season ticket holder and team maker. He enjoyed all with his family as well as with his loving and supportive wife, Betty, of nearly 30 years. In addition, he and his wife shared an unwavering devotion to their faith.

Al will be remembered for his sharp business acumen, being a leader and teacher, dry sense of humor, quick wit, love for jokes and pranks, and his steadfast dedication to his family. We trust that he will watch over us and that he is reunited with his parents, siblings, and especially with his beloved daughter Joni.

Al is survived by his wife Betty Elliott; children, Albert/Sonny Elliott III, Jill Elliott, Cody (Jessi) Elliott; grandson, Maxwell Ness; step-children, Jerrod Milton, Buck Milton; siblings, Mike (Patty) Elliott, Jenice (Larry) Boulger, Bob (Carol) Elliott, George (Mary) Elliott; sisters and brothers-in law, Evelyn Elliott, Mary Ellen Elliott, Terry Elliott, Mike Kozojed and many nieces and nephews; and his former spouse Marilyn Elliott, with whom together they raised their 4 children

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joni Elliott; siblings, Bill Elliott, Jerry (Mary Kay) Elliott, Mary (Thom) Daniels, Pat Elliott, Don Elliott, and Margaret Kozojed.

  6. My condolences to Sonny, Jill, Cody, Betty and all of Al’s extended family. I grew up just down the road from my Uncle Al. I always enjoyed his wit and love for pranks. It got to be a tradition for Al and me when growing up, I would try to prank him every Halloween. He was up for the challenge and more times than not caught me in the act and tease me about how easy it was to catch me the rest of the year. Late I attend NDSU majoring in Ag Economics and he and Uncle Mike gave me some needed coaching along the way which helped me obtain my degree. As everyone that knew him, I will miss him greatly.

  7. I didn’t realize that Al had passed. His family has my deepest sympathy.
I always considered Al a great friend of mine and I have so many memories of him that I don’t even know where to start. We grew up near eachother, I graduated with his brother and he actually lived on a farm that he bought from my grandparents. We had alot on common and I really enjoyed knowing Al. We played softball together for years on the Galesburg slowpitch softball team and he was alot of fun to have for a teammate but he was much more than that to me.
It’s difficult to put into words the kind of friends that Al and I were, but I’m certainly sad that he’s passed.

  8. GOD HAS ANOTHER ROSE IN HIS GARDEN, HIS SMILE ALWAYS MADE MY DAY . TAKE COMFORT THAT HE IS IN THE ARMS OF A GREAT GOD FEELING NO PAIN, WALKING AROUND THOSE FARMS.DEAR FAMILY ,HE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU JUST LOOK UP AND SMILE, TAKE CARE ,MY DEAR BETTY ,HE LOVED YOU SO. TERESA SATHER

  9. Our deepest condolences to Sonny, Jill, Cody, Betty and all of Al’s families!! Al was always ready to great you with a great smile and hi!! He will be missed by so many!!

We are sharing in your sorrow and send our deepest condolences. May you find comfort in God’s love and trust that Al will be resting peacefully. May God’s strength and courage help you through this difficult time. Sending our love and support.

  12. Very happy that I got the chance to meet Al
I worked at the JD Dealership in Galesburg back in the 80’s and Al was in almost everyday just to visit and maybe flip quarters for a soda!
He truly did love to watch Sonny wrestle during the Grade School season, I often worried that he was going to get out on the matt and show us how to do it! He was always there with a smile and willing to help, he will be greatly missed.

  13. our prayers goes out the family and friends of Al. It’s been a long time since our last visit. We will have great memories of buying cattle from him with my grandfather Oscar

  14. Our love & prayers go out to The Elliott Families.
Especially to Betty, Cody his wife Jessi, Jill and Sonny. They have been so devoted to his care, visiting so often also now looking after Betty. The memories you’ll have will be with you Forever, the love you all share will help you through this difficult time. Al & Joni will be watching over you Always and Forever.

  15. Elliott Family: Thoughts and prayers coming your way as you mourn the passing of Albert Junior and as you celebrate his earthly life and now his eternal life. Our family purchased a lot of our show steers from Albert Senior, and I would end up befriending Albert Junior and Mike. It seems as if 4-H was our connection. Al and I were at NDSU as freshmen and hung out as typical college freshmen. When I took a job at Mayville State University, Al and I reconnected and enjoyed our visits. He was always welcoming and smiling and enjoyed visiting. Surround yourselves with all those precious memories and share those with each other throughout the months and years that follow. Blessings to you all . . .
    Terry Kemmer, Detroit Lakes, MN

  16. Our sympathies to Al’s families! We sure enjoyed getting to know him. Certainly a man of many talents who put them to use in many ways. God blessings on him in his final resting place.

  17. So very sorry to hear of Al’s passing. We remember good times with Al and his quirky sense of humor. Good times with our kids in school and 4-H, horse shows, cattle stories and lots of laughs. Al always had time to visit and a ready smile. The community will miss his presence. Sincerely, Reuben and Jennifer Rud
