Albert Backer

Albert Herman Backer, 77, of Fargo passed away on Saturday, November 12, at his home surrounded by his family.
Albert was born in Kensal, ND, September 30, 1934 to Herman and Birdella (Paczkowski) Backer. He grew up in Southeastern North Dakota splitting time in Cayuga and Rutland. He worked with his father as a blacksmith and then later on the railroad. He was united in marriage to Marlene Cryan in Cayuga on July 18, 1956. He ran a service station in Cayuga for several years. The family later moved to Fargo in 1967 and lived there until the time of his death. After moving to Fargo Albert went to work for Tennifos Construction, until 1974, when he started his own business Backer Welding. He owned and operated Backer Welding for 31 years, until retiring.
He was an avid hunter and took pride and enjoyed caring for his lawn. He enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool. Albert was a member of Nativity Catholic Church.
Albert is survived by his wife of 55 years Marlene; son: Tom Backer of Fargo; daughter: Barbara Gassmann fiancé Ray Cook of Fargo; grandchildren: Cassie Gassmann & Shelby Backer. Brothers: Leon, Raymond, Bill; sisters: Delores, Jeanie, Rosie, Yvonne. He was preceded in death by: his parents, brother: Alvin; sisters: Mary & Ellie.
