Alda Raeder

Alda G. Raeder, beloved Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, age 91, of Christine, ND went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Ecumen Evergreens, Moorhead. Alda Gudrund Raeder was born at the Olson home farm in Langdon, ND on December 25, 1925 to Ole E. Olson and Helga (Bratlie) Olson. She grew up doing many farm chores alongside her older brothers. Alda attended school at Loam #2 through the 8th grade (skipping over Grade 6). She worked various jobs to save money to attend New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo. After graduation, she worked at salons in Grafton and Langdon. She next worked at Manchester Biscuit Company in Fargo until she was married. Alda met her husband-to-be, Duaine Raeder, at the Crystal Ballroom. After a brief six month engagement, they were married in September of 1951. Alda & Duaine had a Sunday morning wedding ceremony at Vang Lutheran Church in Langdon and settled in Moorhead, MN. In September 1964, Alda & Duaine and their 5 children moved out to a farm in Christine, ND where she would live until 2015. Alda was a very busy homemaker and a full partner in the daily chores on the farm. She was actively involved in her church, Homemakers’ Club and Ladies Aid. Alda starting working part time at the Post office in Christine in 1971 and retired as Postmaster in 1992. Alda was an excellent seamstress, cook, and gardener. Alda’s greatest love was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Alda is survived by her children: Debra (Thomas) Tollefson, Glyndon, MN; Randy (Donna) Raeder, Christine, ND; Cindy (Jay) Nord, Wolverton, MN; Gayle (Scott) Carlson, Fargo, ND; Yvonne (Mark) Shields, Pekin, IL. Her grandchildren: Brian (Laurie) Tollefson, Rebecca (Dustin) Crompton, Denise (Christian) Johnson, Jacob Gauslow, Chase Raeder, Cody Raeder, Ashley (Clint) Malikowski, Nicole (C.J.) Peeters, Erica (Brent) Halverson, Jennifer Carlson, Tyler (Rachel) Carlson, Megan Shields, Trevor Shields, Carly Shields. Her great-grandchildren: Michael, Noah & Isabella Tollefson, Braydon, Hunter, Morgan & Wyatt Crompton, Everett Peeters, Lauren Carlson and Blake Halverson. Her brother, Ole L. E. Olson, Langdon, ND, her sisters: June Marsden, Pekin, IL and Helga (Dennis) Schuschke, Fargo, ND. Her sisters- in-law: Bernice Olson and Anna Olson, both of Langdon, ND; Grace Andel, Breckenridge, MN, Petrina Raeder, Raytown, MO and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63+ years Duaine, her parents, her brothers: Andrew (Helen) Olson, Henry Olson, Erling (Anna Mae) Olson, Olin (Ethel) Olson, Lloyd (Elizabeth) Olson, and Hans Olson; her sister-in-law, Marjorie Olson and her brother-in-law Howard Marsden. Funeral service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Eagle Valley Evan. Free Church, Christine, ND with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m.
