Allen Goshinska

Allen C. Goshinska, 84, of Hillsboro, ND died at Sanford Long Term Care, Hillsboro. He was also under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Allen was born June 17, 1931 to Amos and Christine (Merkens) in Norman County, MN. He attended school near Shelly, MN, Hillsboro, ND and Hastings, NE. The family lived in Hastings during WWII. The parents worked in a defense plant and after the war the returned to Hillsboro. He was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was on a ship headed for Korea when the peace treaty was signed. He spent time at Camp Ostu, Japan (3D BN, 9th RGT). He returned to the States and was honorably discharged January 8, 1954. At an early age, he began farming with his aunt and uncle, Laura and Jack Mergenthal. His uncle passed away in 1969, at that time, Allen took over the farming operation. He enjoyed the farming life, planting and harvesting the crops, raising cattle and hogs and always his faithful dog, a Blue Heeler. His 5th Blue survives and is a city dog living with Allen’s sister and brother-in-law in Fargo. He is survived by his sisters, Janet Bjornstad, Mavis Gunderson and Ruby (Rudy) Fronk; step-sister, Betty Litzinger; step-brother, Robert (Naomi) Rusdal; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his baby brother Truman Wesley; his parents, Amos and Christine; his step-father, Russel Rusdal; 3 brothers-in-law, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside Service: 1:00 P.M. Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.
