Alma Irene Klug, 102, of Fargo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at St. Catherine’s North. Born on November 15, 1922 to Henning and Lula (Gulland) Johnson, Alma lived a life full of love, laughter, and wonderful memories.

Growing up in Leonard, North Dakota, she attended country school through the 8th grade before moving to Fargo. It was there that she began her career at Fairmont Creamery. She met her beloved husband, Hubert Klug, on a bus. They tied the knot on February 1, 1946, and created a warm and welcoming home together, first on a farm near Ulen, Minnesota, then back in Fargo.

Alma worked various jobs throughout her life, including stints at the Great Northern Lunch Counter, Herbst Department Store, NDSU, and St. Luke’s Hospital. She was a dedicated member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, where she was actively involved in the Women’s Auxiliary and enjoyed hosting family and friends. Alma cherished her time with her sewing club, where friendships blossomed over 50 years, and looked forward to her monthly meetings with Pastor Dave for devotions, songs, and communion.

She was also known for her delicious baking, especially her famous donuts. Alma and Hubert loved their date nights together, sharing laughs and creating beautiful memories.

  1. Alma was a wonderful person. Mon and Dad love visiting with her when they were in Fargo. And after Mon passing when Dad and I were in Fargo we would go visit her. She love the company she was a great person

  2. I Send my deepest condolences to Almas family. Alma was my grandma’s 1st cousin. When we would go to ND in the summer we would always go visit her. She was always such a hoot to be with! She had a wonderful sense of humor at age 101 and always had something to say. For example, the last time I saw Alma we talked to the nurses on the way out and they told us that yesterday she didn’t like the food they had for dinner and Alma said “If this food was any worse I will have to go out out on the street corner and picket with a sign!”. She was just a delight and I am honored that I can call her my cousin and overjoyed that I had the opportunity to get to know her! May she rest in peace.

  3. I went to see Grandma on Friday. I didn’t realize that it was going to be the last time I was able to. I just talked and talked. I thanked her for all the goodies. Best chocolate chip cookies ever! I also thanked her for all the precious memories. Especially the funny ones. One of my favorites was her hopping into her great granddaughter Hanna’s gocart. (She must have been in her 80s at the time!) They were whipping around the yard. No fear! We were all laughing and she had this look of pure fun on her face. Thank you Grandma!

  4. REST IN PEACE GRANNY!!! The caregivers at ROSEWOOD on BROADWAY did an excellent job taking care of you .. I admit the coffee was bad as you have mentioned it many times… what Betty and I witnessed on YOUR final DAY Saturday December 14 was TRUE example of compassion and value of human life— staff placed a good size stained glass angel on your nameplate outside your door… we were allowed to be with you until Boulgers came.. we were able to say our goodbyes and you can party with your all your family members that went before you and maybe get to see your friends as well… staff told us we are welcome to to the final walkout with Alma .. Betty and I looked at each other “why wouldn’t we -we will… “. Staff placed Lord is my shepherd blanket over her.. we followed behind the stretcher holding hands as were walking all the residents on the floor their doors were closed – we came upon the front doors and Stopped – the nurse said a farewell speech and said Lord’s Prayer—send off with Boulger Funeral Home —- it was so peaceful and emotional moving…. We go back to the room and nurse put the blanket onto the bed … Betty and I just couldn’t believe what just happened.. never heard of this practice before at a nursing home… it was MAGIC SEND OFF… the staff let us have as much time we needed to take her stuff (ended to be 3 hrs). I Will always remember that DAY.. GRANNY I will miss decorating your room and bringing big bags of candy put in your special bucket— and the visits always wanting to know what’s going on… many years ago for Christmas I got a perfume bottle that was a cat (Avon) I still have it / I was 9 years old.. my favorite treats was “donuts” and “Cherry Winks” you made during holidays… I will miss you saying ADELINE WISE called me on Sunday saying ‘Danny O’Donald’ is on channel 13. And small chats you had with her which was my other grandma … I wish you the best on your new journey took 102 years old and finally you got your ANgEL WINGS. Take care — with all my LOVE —- your granddaughter— CHRISTINE “CHRISTY” WISE

  5. My deepest sympathy to the Klug family. Alma was one of my favorite aunts! She was so kind and generous. I have many fond memories of her growing up and always remember her bring a big box of her homemade bake goods to our home around the holidays.

  6. Grandma Klug, I will always remember you trying to scare me with the croaking frog (if I seen that damn thing today I would probably still be scared if it!!), baking the YUMMIEST homemade Reese’s (Grandpa Wayne and I would actually hide them from each other), and you letting me whip you around on the go cart. I’m sorry I didn’t get to know you in my adult life, or you knowing your THREE GREAT- GREAT- grandchildren, but alas everyone made their choices, and it is life. I am glad your spunk, and stubbornness was apart of my childhood. Rest Easy and fly high Great Grandma.

  7. Alma and my Mom Violet Bood Breitbach both grew up around Leonard ND and later roomed together and worked together at the Fairmount Creamery. Mom told the story of after they got their paycheck they went shopping together at the Department store in Fargo, first stopping at the restroom there. The story goes that Alma went into a stall and I guess she didn’t see that Mom went into the stall next to her. Alma put her purse on the floor in full view of Mom. Mom thought she’d play a trick on Alma and grab her purse away. Alma saw her purse being taken and grabbed Mom’s hand so fast that Mom started laughing . Alma realized that was her and scolded her laughing saying “OH VIOLET”!! I think they were always playing tricks on each other like that. Rest in Peace Alma
