Alphield Lyng

Alphield Waslien Lyng, 87, of Cummings, ND was called home to sing with the heavenly choir of angels, on November 27, 2009. He died at home on the farm where he had lived his life. Alphield was born on May 24, 1922 in Hillsboro, ND to Aneus and Josine (Waslien) Lyng. He attended grade school at Irvin #3 in Cummings, ND and high school in Hillsboro, ND. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Geraldine Fodness on June 8, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton, ND. They made their home on the family farm near Cummings, ND, where they raised their 5 children. Alphield retired from farming in 1984, and worked at UND in Grand Forks, ND from 1971-1991. He loved to sing and was active in various singing groups throughout his life. He served on many boards in the community and enjoyed going to Sons of Norway. Alphield is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Kent (Rose) Lyng, Lena, WI, Nancy Lyng, Waukee, IA, Kevin (Martina) Lyng, Clifford, ND, Suzy Lyng, Fargo, ND, and Steve (Kelli) Lyng of Stillwater, MN; Grandchildren, Tjarko (Sarah) Battle, Chris, Sabrina, Amber, Janna, Kasey, Lexie, Jennifer, and Matthew Lyng; and 1 Great Granddaughter, Zachariah Lyng, along with a sister-in-law, Marilyn Wheeler, nieces, nephews, and several relatives here and in Norway. He was preceded in death by his parents.
