December 10, 1949 ~ December 18, 2024
Born in:
Maddock, North Dakota
Resided in:
West Fargo, North Dakota
Born December 10, 1949 in Maddock, North Dakota, the 6th child of Spurgen & Mary (Groff) Myers. She grew up in Leeds, ND and attended school there.
She married Ernest Slotto in November 1968 and the two made their home in rural Fillmore, ND. Two girls were born of this union, Susan and Judy. In 1983 Alverna moved with her girls to Golden Valley, ND.
In 1985 she married Ivan J. Sasse at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Zap, ND. They made their home on a dairy farm in rural Zap for many years.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Alverna’s jobs usually involved cooking, something she truly had a passion for. She worked for the Eagles Club in Beulah, ND, Cenex Hot Stuff and later for UND Dining Services in Grand Forks, ND before retiring. When not cooking or baking you could find her crocheting and more recently doing Diamond Art and giving the gifts away to her daughters and granddaughter.
But out of everything, Alverna’s love for her grandchildren was above all else. She had a special relationship with each one and she was so incredibly proud of them. She loved attending all of their sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader.
She passed away December 18, 2024 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with heart disease.
Alverna was an active member of Horace Lutheran Church in Horace, ND.
She is survived by: daughters Susan (Thomas) Harder of Munich ND, Judy (Kevin) Solberg of West Fargo, ND, grandchildren Braden Harder, Logan Harder, Kade Susie, Meredith Solberg, Tucker Solberg, brother Glenn (Audrey) Myers, sisters Gywene Owens, Rita (Richard) Foss, Helen Greenwood and Shirley Owens; many beloved nieces, nephews and their families and some truly wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Wayne and Spurgen Myers Jr. and special nephew, Terry Myers and niece Renee Miller.

To my dearest Mama, thank you for all the unconditional love, selflessness, teaching us about right and wrong and how to persevere through hardship. Those life skills have and will continue to serve us well. I will continue your cooking legacy-although the lefse will have to be left with you I’m afraid. 🙂 I love you so much.
Everyone who knew you is missing you. One day we will see you again in heaven. I know you are finally without pain and at peace. I am so glad to have known you.
To your family… cherish all the memories. She will always live in your hearts until you see her again one day in heaven.
so sorry about your mama . You will have many happy memories with her. Sad for the grandchildren too.. Sympathy and hugs to you and your sister.
