Born in: Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
Resided in: Casselton, North Dakota

Alyssa Louise Berg was born January 21, 1982, in Detroit Lakes MN, to John and Catherine (Reed) Berg. Being the youngest of 4 siblings, she was the best of us. Although the baby, she was also parent and caretaker to us all. She was compassionate, loyal, generous, and supportive, and her unexpected passing at only 42, has left us shocked and heartbroken. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Alyssa grew up on the family farm in Toad Lake, MN, where her love for animals began. She took care of many rabbits, ducks, cats, dogs, cows, goats, sheep, and more over the years. Alyssa was active 4-H member, and enjoyed several trips to the MN State Fair with one of her award-winning sheep.

She attended Frazee-Vergas Public Schools, graduating in 2000. While there, she was active in FFA and played the french horn in the High School Band. She went on to attend North Dakota State University, in Fargo, ND, and obtained a BS in Business Administration in 2005. A highlight during college was a class trip to South Korea, which sparked interest in further travels. There were several trips to Texas with family and she spoke often of her desire to explore more of the world.

In September 2004, she began working at Bethany Retirement Living in the Human Resources Department, and continued as Payroll and Benefits Coordinator until her death. She enjoyed the role and work she did there, but it was her colleagues that made it more than just a job. She found a home and family there.

She enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and spending time with her friends and family. She liked to try new hobbies, like knitting and soap making. She had a knack for it, and we loved the hand-made gifts received. She spoiled us all – father, sisters, and brother – however, it was her nieces and nephews, and the great-nieces and nephew too, that she loved with all her heart and spoiled most of all.

She will be deeply missed by her current pets: cats, Bailey, who she rescued, and Jasper, but most of all by her dog, Bullet, who never ever left her side.

She is survived by her father, John, Toad Lake, MN; siblings, Christine (Joe), Fargo, ND, Julia (Clay), Bluffton, MN, and James, Toad Lake, MN; nieces, Emily (Tyler) and Amanda (Dillon); nephews, Jacob (Paige), Thomas and Christopher; great-nieces, Addison, Callie, and Blair; and great-nephew, Brayden.

She will be interred at the cemetery in Syre, MN, where she will join those who preceded her in death; mother, Catherine, grandparents, Florence Reed and Judien and Henrietta Berg, great-grandparents, John and Julia Berg, and other relatives.
