Amy Lynn Crawford, 55, passed away November 20, 2025, at Essentia Health of Fargo, following a hard fought 2 year battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer). Prior to her passing, she had been a short-term resident of Eventide in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she quickly made many friends.
Amy was born in Stillwater, Minnesota, on May 8, 1970. As an infant of 3 months, she was chosen to be their daughter, by John and Nyla (Johnson) Salness, who resided in Braham, Minnesota. When Amy was 4 years old, the family resided briefly near Wadena, Minnesota, and in 1975 moved to Mayville, North Dakota, where her father was in hospital administration.
As a family, she enjoyed trips to Disneyland, Yellowstone Park, the Black Hills, the Great Lakes, Washington, D.C., but also treasured the many times she spent at her grandparents’ cabin near Vergas, Minnesota. There she had a tree house, fished with her Dad and Grandpa Johnson, went for walks in the woods, enjoyed swimming, sitting in her lawn chair under the sprinkler, campfires, shooting her bb gun, catching fire flies in a jar, and enjoying all of nature. She also loved her cats, Tina and Kola who she could bottle feed and dress up in doll clothes. She also loved spending time in Moorhead with her Salness grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She and her cousins loved playing cards, games, going to parks, and playing in Grandma and Grandpa’s basement where their imaginations had no limits.
Amy graduated from Mayville-Portland High School in l988. She was active in band, choir, and competed in many vocal competitions. Her love for almost any kind of music continued all her life. Had she been on the show Name That Tune, she could have won hands down. She worked at a nursing home while in high school. She definitely was a talker, and enjoyed visiting with the residents. She briefly attended Mayville State University, and then continued her studies online.
In September, 1991, Amy married Wendell White. They resided in Grand Forks and Fargo, North Dakota, before moving to Baltimore, Maryland. While there Amy again worked in a nursing home, and was also an EMT. The couple later divorced. Returning to Fargo, Amy did telemarketing, worked for a travel agency, and worked in customer service for a credit card company. She moved back to Mayville where she could work from home while raising her daughter, Jacquelyn. It was there she met her future husband, Mike. On December 31, 2012, she and Micheal Crawford were married in Grand Forks. They lived in Portland, ND, Alexandria, Mankato, and Moorhead, MN.
We will miss her laughter, smile, cooking (she could make up some of the best dishes), singing, bear hugs, and phone calls. Amy was a “fixer” and wanted to help anyone any way she could. If we didn’t know something, she could find the answer.
Preceding her in death was her father, John Salness; grandparents, Nina and Odin Johnson, Helen and Clayton Salness; two uncles and an aunt.
Amy is survived by husband Michael; mother, Nyla Salness; her daughter, Jacquelyn White of Moorhead; step children Morgan Crawford in California, Ryker (Lauren) Crawford of Mayville, ND and Jacob Crawford of Mayville; an aunt, Linda Haukedahl; and three cousins. She also leaves her in-laws, Pam and Truman Crawford of Jamestown, NY and a host of Crawford relatives on the east coast, whom she dearly loved.
The family is holding a memorial service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2502 17th Ave S, Fargo, ND 58103) on Saturday, December 6th at 1:00pm.
