Tony passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at his home in Fargo, surrounded by his family, under the care of Hospice, at the age of 85.

Anton Joseph Magelky was born on November 25, 1926, the son of Anton and Kathryn (Commes) Magelky in Dickinson, ND. He grew up in Manning, ND and graduated from Dickinson High School.  Following his education he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1945 until 1947. He completed basic training at Camp Livingston in Louisiana, spent time in occupied Japan, and was discharged at Fort Lewis in Washington. Tony returned home to Dickinson and started working for the North Dakota Highway Department.  Tony was united in marriage to Norma “Mickey” Lipelt on November 2, 1952. They later made their home in Fargo where he worked for Schultz and Lindsey Construction Company as an engineer estimator. After 20 years he began working for S&S Construction in Moorhead, FM Asphalt in Dilworth and retired from Wanzek Construction in West Fargo. During his retirement he stayed busy working for Sherbrooke Asphalt in Cormorant, MN and Egge Construction in Pelican Rapids, MN. Throughout the years, Tony was active in the Fargo American Legion, VFW, Elks, and Knights of Columbus. Tony loved his days spent at the lake with his family, especially his grandkids, and of course, time on the golf course.

Tony is survived by his wife, Norma of Fargo; his children, Michael (Barbara) Magelky of Fargo; Patrick (Phyllis) Magelky of Argusville, ND; Mark (Lori) Magelky of Brandon, SD; Toni Marie (Steve) Grabinger of Lake Park, MN; and Lori (Ken) Ruhland of West Fargo, ND; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his brother, Donald Magelky of Bismarck, ND; and his sister, Mary Braun of San Bernadino, CA.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Henry Magelky; and his sister, Bernice Carlson.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley and to the Disabled American Veterans.

  1. Avon IndianaToni, Steve & family I am so sorry to read about the loss of your dad and grandfather. You have been in my thoughts so much lately and I didn’t know why, other than the fact that I moved to Indiana and didn’t have a chance to see you again. I checked the obituaries in The Forum on line and now I see why you have been in my thoughts.
My Prayer list is getting kind of long again but there certainly will always be a place for your names. My deepest Sympathy and Prayers go out to you Toni and all your family, may God be with you and help you through this difficult time.

  11. pelican rapids mnI met Tony through working at Egge’s, we formed a great relationship and will miss him deaply. Besides work we always found time to go for a beer at the VF. When he retired from working, he still would always find time to come and see me, I think it was to go out for our beer. My deepest sympathy to Micky and the family.
