Ardell Schulz

Ardell Mamie Schulz, 80, West Fargo, ND, died Sunday, August 28, 2005 at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Ardell was born on May 25, 1925 to Gotlieb and Mamie (Boldt) Janke, Perham, MN. She was a second generation Germans from Russia, her father being born in Russia. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John?s Lutheran Church, rural Perham, MN. She lived with her parents on a farm in Bulter Township where she attended a rural one-room school. On May 28, 1942 she graduated from Perham High School. In the fall of 1942 she moved to Fargo to attend Interstate Business College. She was then employed in the Cass County Courthouse, Fargo, ND in the office of the District Clerk of Court. Following that period, she worked as a secretary in the office of what was then the law firm of Nilles-Ohlert & Nilles, until her marriage. On June 4, 1950, she was married to Delmer Schulz of Fargo in the church in which she was baptized and confirmed, St. John?s Lutheran Church, Perham, MN. Delmer and Ardell farmed in rural Cass County from the time of their marriage and in 1962 purchased a farm in Warren Township near Davenport, ND, where they continued to live and raise their children until his death in April of 1979. During that time, they were both active in church, school, community and agricultural-related activities. She moved to Fargo in 1986 and then moved to West Fargo, in 2001. Ardell was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and was a District Officer in LWML, a 4-H leader for 14 years and served 2 terms as a member of the Cass County Farm Bureau Auxiliary. She was a member of the Fargo PEO Chapter AE. She was an active volunteer at the Roger Maris Cancer Center and other organizations while living in Fargo. Ardell loved a good game of bridge, a good book, baking, her home on Pelican Lake, and above all, visiting with her many friends and family. Ardell is survived by her children: Barbara (David) Gaddie, Duluth, MN, Catherine ( Dean) Merhiy, Kindred, ND, Gregory ( Sheri) Schulz, Davenport, ND, and Paul (Denise) Schulz, Davenport, ND and 8 grandchildren, Patrick and Kaitlin Gaddie, Courtnay and Eric Merhiy, Luke, Justin, Devaney Schulz and Lindsey Schulz, and one sister, Bernice (Bing) Cosby, Naperville, IL. Ardell is preceded in death by her husband Delmer, an infant son Steven and her parents Gotlieb and Mamie Janke, her sister Evelyn Matz, Perham, MN and two brothers, Roy and Norman Janke. The Funeral for Ardell will be Thursday, September 1, 2005 at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND at 1:00pm. Visitation will be at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND, Wednesday, August 31, 2005 from 5:00 to 8:00pm and one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.
