Arden Bye, age 82, died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Bethany Homes under the care of the staff at Bethany Homes and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Arden was born on March 25, 1926 on the farm near Churchs Ferry, ND to Morten and Marie (Kirkeide) Bye. He got his education at Churchs Ferry and Maddock Agricultural School. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. He spent two and half years in the South Pacific. Upon his discharge he returned to Churchs Ferry. He married Donna Gilberg at Big Coulee Lutheran Church, rural Churchs Ferry on July 31, 1946. They took over the family farm and lived there for 18 years. He was a school bus driver for Churchs Ferry Public School for 12 and a half years. They moved to Grand Forks where he was a realtor for Century 21. In 1989 they moved to Fargo and Arden worked at WW Wallwork. He also lived and worked at the Scandia Hotel for 18 years. Arden retired in 2001. He moved to Bethany Homes in 2006. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Churchs Ferry achieving the position of Worthy Patron. He was an active member of Big Coulee Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry. He was a member of the Elks in Grand Forks, Sons of Norway, Eagles, VFW and American Legion in Fargo. He loved to hunt, play pinochle and cards, fish, and was known for having a good sense of humor. He is survived by his wife: Donna; children: Sande Erickson (Bob) Palm Bay, FL, Pat Huot (Wille) Grand Forks, ND, Karen Williams (Al) Pleasantville, PA, Judy Schrade, Saratoga, NY, Marcia Kuznia (Francis) Warren, MN; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful friend: Chico (pet cockatiel). He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Adelaide ?Dolly? Smith and Mildred Lyons. The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.
