Arlee John Simpson, age 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, at his home in Dilworth, MN, with the love of his life, Julie, by his side. He was supported by HIA Hospice (formerly Hospice of the Red River Valley) and loving family members.

Arlee was born on August 20, 1954, to John and Arlene (Elm) Simpson in Valley City, ND. He attended school and graduated from Valley City in 1972. Following graduation, Arlee joined the Air Force. He was stationed at an Air Force base in Turkey for a time guarding planes during a conflict between Turkey and Cypress. He was honorably discharged in 1976.

Arlee married the love of his life, Julie Ludwig, on April 22, 1978. Together they built a strong and loving partnership that spanned 47 years, 2 months, and one day, living in Valley City before making their home in Dilworth, MN, where they created countless memories over the past four decades. Their bond was a testament to love, patience, and shared values. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Karen Rae and Jonathon James.

A proud graduate of Valley City State University, Arlee earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in 1980, majoring in art with a minor in psychology. He worked various jobs in Valley City while attending college.

Arlee and Julie moved to Dilworth and Arlee began working in the business of screen printing. In 2000 they entered a business relationship with the Olson brothers of Fargo, ND. Together they owned Applied Image, which focused on screen printing and vinyl graphics. Arlee also worked as a supervisor at Marvin Windows in the matte and mix department for a number of years until his retirement in 2021.

Arlee was a man of many talents; he found joy in working on cars and his motorcycle, embracing the thrill of the open road and his hands were often busy with woodworking projects that showcased his creativity and craftsmanship. However, it was the time spent with his family that brought him the most joy. Arlee treasured every moment with his loved ones, creating memories that will forever live in their hearts.

Arlee leaves behind his devoted spouse, Julie Simpson, who provided unwavering love and support throughout their journey together. He is also survived by their son, Jonathon Simpson, his wife, Lori and her son, Jackson; sister, Ila (Mark) Marvel; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, as well as many special and dear friends, all of whom he loved with all is heart.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Rae (Simpson) Thorson; parents, John and Arlene Simpson; and his in-laws, James and Karen Rae Ludwig.
