August 14, 1923 ~ December 13, 2014
Arlyn M. Ebbighausen, age 91, of Hillsboro died peacefully on December 13, 2014 at the Halstad Living Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Arlyn Muriel (Hong) Ebbighausen was born to Christ A. and Martha (Anderson) Hong in the family home in Buxton, ND on August 14, 1923. Arlyn grew up in Buxton and graduated from high school in the new gymnasium, class of 1941. She always had good things to say about the city of Buxton and the rural area. Without the consent of her parents, Arlyn slipped away to a dance at the Nielsville Legion Hall and met her future husband, Edward Ebbighausen. She often said, “It was the best dance she ever went to!” Edward and Arlyn were married on May 16, 1942 in her parents home. After her marriage she moved to a farmstead northeast of Hillsboro. Her goal in life was to advance the Christian, academic, and family values to the entire family. She was so successful. For 67 years she was an active member of the Eldorado Willing Workers Homemakers Group. At the Wesley Methodist Church, later the Hillsboro United Parish, many positions were held. Religious education, building committee and music were some, but 23 years as Sunday School Teacher was her most memorable position. It was remarkable to watch her dedication and love to a son with developmental disabilities, Edward Jr.
She is survived by her children, Edward Jr. of Grand Forks; daughter, Deb and Tom Eblen (grandchildren – Jason, Megan, Kristen) of Hillsboro; and son, Bradley whom she lived on the farmstead with until 3 months before her passing, and one dog Kali.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 43 years, Edward; her sisters, Mae and Einar Holt, Nora and Art Sorum; her brothers, Curtis and Alice Hong; Clifford Hong and Lloyd Hong.
We are not saying goodbye; we will greet you in heaven.
Memorials are preferred to the Hillsboro United Parish.
