Art Beckman, age 94, passed away of natural causes on February 23, 2023. A memorial service in his honor will be held at Boulger Funeral Home on May 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting one hour prior.

Art was born in Hammond, Indiana on December 3, 1928 to Arthur Sr. and Lydia Beckman. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Dairy Science in 1951. After marrying Patricia (Pat) Grady of Galveston, Indiana in 1952, he was drafted into the Army and spent an early eighteen months of his marriage in Korea. His experience there inspired him to sponsor needy children through World Vision for the rest of his life.

Art and Pat moved to Fargo in 1961 and remained there until the end of their lives. Art served as Plant Manager and Vice President of Production at Cass-Clay Creamery for the twenty-nine years of his career in Fargo. Upon his retirement in 1990, he was recognized by the Upper Midwest Dairy Supply Association “in appreciation for his contributions to the dairy industry.”

Art was blessed with three children; Scott in Santa Fe, Julie in Fargo and Janet in Minneapolis. In family life, with his children and grandchildren, and their friends, Art was known to be an outstanding swim and baseball team coach. He also loved growing tulips, roses and tomatoes in the yard.
Like his wife, Pat, Jesus Christ was central to all that he did. Art taught Sunday School for thirty-seven years to scores of Fargo kids and distributed hundreds of Bibles around the region as a member of Gideons International.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift to The David J. Heimdahl Memorial YMCA Camp Cormorant Campers Fund c/o YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties, 400 First Ave., S., Fargo, ND 58103 or World Vision’s Childcare Program at World Vision, P.O. Box 70026, Tacoma, WA, 96481-0026.

Guestbook

  1. I worked at Cass Clay creamery when Art was in charge there. Cass Clay was a great employer of a young man and Art was the best boss ever. He looked out for me and went to bat for me many times. He worked lots of weekends too everywhere in the plant.

  2. Sorry to hear about Art and Pat. We were neighbors, I spent time on the Hope Lutheran Council with Art and the Beckmans were my tax clients for many years. I really liked Art and Pat. They are in my prayers.

  3. I remember Art he came to West Acres in the food court & socialize w/the men like Bob & Lyle & the rest of us on every Tuesdays & Thursdays I’ll miss Art deeply & all the men too,
